My HP Deskjet 6940 ran out of ink and I replaced it, like normal, and it still won't print. I've tried everything I could think of. Please help.

I am having the same problem, cleaned and replaced the color cartridge on my 6940 and the printer won't detect the cartridge. I am not sure what else to try.

Mateo6940's response for my situation. I removed the cartridge and there was a big gash in the circuits. I now print with only one ink cartridge.

I had a HP Deskjet and really liked it, but when I replaced the black
ink...the message: problem with cartridege showed up. It
never worked again. I bought another one and the VERY first time
that I tried to replace the color print cartridge...the same thing
happened. I was SO careful removing the old one and replacing the
    new cartridge!!!!!

had many problems with HP 6940 but last one is that it won't acknowledge new color ink cartridges. Now determined that I can't print anything in color & will have to replace the printer, which is only 2 years old. Very poor design and not reliable printer for office format. The ink plate in the printer has been damaged even though care was taken when replacing new cartridges.

Due to shiaty design, it is easy to accidentaly puncture the printed circuit with the sharp end of the retention spring while inserting a new cartridge. Use a flashlight too look at the white/copper sheet the cartridge makes contact with and look for a puncture (probably near the lower right side.)

Alcohol swab on the connection for the cartridge.

MY HP DESKJET 6940 PRINTING PREFENCES DOES NOT SHOW SERVICE THIS DEVICE TAB. I HAVE GONE TO THE HP WEBSITE AND REINSTALLED BUT IT STILL ISN'T SHOWING.

The single red ink drop is blinking and printer is not printing.
Do I have to replace both cartridges, earlier, only replaced the b/w.
Did not notice print getting dim before this happened.

The black is printing dark redish brown

Dear friend, your Black Ink Cartridge is Empty thats why your printer is using the Colour Cartridge to produce the Black Colour. This is the reason you are having Dark Reddish Brown colour instead of Black.

Printer Toolbox Not Recognizing New Black Ink

The Deskjet 6940 will only show ink level for original HP cartrdgies. Refilled or reman cartridges will show as empty or unknown in the toolbox. This is not an issue with the driver, the cartrdige itself has information that it has been previously used and this is not resettable. You can continue to print with a cartrdige that has unknown ink levels, you will just not get low ink warnings.
