How to start and what type of oil do you use
That particular Briggs model should have drain plug (inverted 3/8" square). It may or may not be accessible with the alternator mounted.
Mary Sprout,
Yes, apparently that model has no drain plug. See the following link I found using https://www.google.com It suggests a method to drain the oil. https://www.mytractorforum.com/105-generators/446817-what-no-drain-plug.html
Good luck.
My powermate was working good last night today i can't start ? solutions please
This is less of a comment and really is a question. I have a Powermate Ultra 2500 generator that I can't find an owner's manual for. I can't find the oil drain plug. I can clearly see the pan at the bottom of the engine, I can c where the dipstick terminates, all the way underneath there's a huge shroud covering the whole bottom inside the cart frame . does that need to come off? am I looking right at it and don't see it? if anybody has any suggestions or if you know where it's at I'm probably looking right at it. I thought I had it and I didn't, but thank you in advance for any help

SOURCE: What oil do I use in a Coleman Powermate 1850
Even though Powermate generators are discontinued they still have a website with owners manuals at www.powermate.com.

SOURCE: What type of oil for a Coleman 5000 Generator?
You need a quart of regular old SAE 5W30 motor oil with detergent.
The engines on these generators are more or less the same as a lawn mower.
Don't forget to service/change the air cleaner when you change the oil, that should keep your generator producing full power.

Carl

the gensets on coleman generators are definately nothing to brag about but i would start by checking the windings and make sure the brushes have a clean armature to ride on
