PC will hang manytimes if I try to open folders and files.

If I refresh then that refresh window will not go off as well as unable to shut down properly.

Hi
i have no idea if you are using windows cd that it came with your pc or you are using retail cd ??
but you can take these steps to have clean instalation, make sure your windows cd has gunian serial number(becouse you will not be able to update your windows after instalation).
if you have recovery disk from Brand of your computer(example:

dell ,or hp ,or......) use that for instaling windows, it will bring your pc to the day when you bought it. if not
and using retail windows cd , please do as a follow:
first backup all your documents ,wher you can download them after fresh windows, becous you will lose the when instaling new windows.

put your windows cd in cd drive ,
restart your your pc
when rebooting it will ask you if you want reboot from cd or dvd(as soos as you see that you must act quik) click enter
then follow on screen until it will ask you to chose how to format the partition that you are instaling windows , PLEASE chose full format .
now follow the instruction until windows comletliy instaled .
update your windows
now you are good to go for any other things you like to instal.
thanks:marco

Motherboard specification not available.

Are you uning the recovery CD or a new OS?

A new Os (XP) will allow the second drive even if the old one will not. Of course you can always add a USB hard drive and a USB PCI card to make it all work. What are you using this pc for seems a little old for todays applications. Suggestion If your going to use this that you Replace the main hard drive with a 120GB or larger, new video card at least 256MB if not 512 and at least 1 gig of memory as I believe it will only take a max of 1 gig. you cannot use vista as it requires more resources than this Pc can give to support the OS. you may want to try XP LITE as well one you get XP installed to speed it up a bit!

I have Intel 810e PIII 1 GHz 512 Mb Ram 20 GB HDD. OS Win ME I want to add secondary HDD. Which one should I preferr 80GB / 120GB / 160GB. and will install new OS say Win XP or linux in Secondary Hdd....

160gb - but ensure the bios is up to date and check the motherboard manual as that will or should explain about maximum capacity of hard drives but am sure it should be fine.

If it is not and does not detect all of it you can partition the partitions into smaller amounts ie 80 gb partitions each ?

If it is an intel, the most common driver you can download is the Intel Extreme graphics driver. Search for the Intel Extreme graphics driver and download it. Hopefully this will fix it. Make sure you have the latest driver for you video card.

RAM cuantity

The motherboard you mentioned supports DDR1 RAM.

For windows xp and general application 512 MB is enough.
But if you use memory intensive applications like image/video editing then you can opt for 1-2 GB RAM.

Intel 845 GVSR drivers for windows vista

Fix for older motherboards like Intel 845GVSR etc.,
HERE IS THE SOLUTION FOR FIXING DISPLAY PROBLEMS....
(This solution works for any Intel Motherboard)
No need to donwload or install any drivers.
Vista has everything built in.
Only thing is it needs atleast 128 Mb of Video Memory, but for older motherboards like Inter 845 by default the Video Memory is configured to 64 Mb which is resulting in your problem.
So what you have to do is...
SOLUTION:
Restart your computer > Press DEL Key
and
Go to BIOS Settings > Advanced > Video Configuration
1. Change "AGP Aperture Size" from 64 Mb to "128 Mb or Higher"
2. Leave "Primary Video Adapter" as "Integrated"
3. Change "Frame Buffer Size" from 1 Mb to "8 Mb"
and then press F10(i.e., Save changes and continue).
Sometimes, for the first time you may see screen not aligned properly, in that case just restart once more and Vista will automatically adjust the alignment for you.
Also, you can change the resolution to your desired one manually as follows...
1. Click "Start Button"
2. Right click on "Computer"
3. Select "Properties" option from the context menu.
4. Scroll down and find "Disply Settings" option and click it.
5. Adjust Resolution Size and Mode.
NOW, ENJOY USING VISTA.....
