There are quite a few things that could cause this to happen. So, let's start with some basic possible fixes.
1) You could have a static build upon the mother board. Remove the power plug and battery. Hold the power button on for at least 30 seconds. That should drain the static.
2) There could be a connector problem. At very least, remove and reinstall the HD, DVD drive, memory modules, any PCMCIA cards flash drives, external drives and so forth.
3) If you have the tools and ability, I would suggest opening the beast up and reseating any connector that you can find including the wireless card and the CPU.
40 I hope not, but you could have a flaky mother board.
As I said, these are pretty basic ideas and hope that I've been of some help.
Let me know how you come out, or if you need more help.
Thanks and have a super day!
Ron

Hi there !

Blue screen means that your hard disk drive is damaged and cannot be repair or reformat. But still to repair or run windows operating installation on your CDROM and maybe it is repairable. Other you need to replace your hard disk drive to work again your computer.

Dell M2300 issues: After several times of a freezed screen & rebooted the computer while either on the internet or working with "Autocad Inventor", it's finally gave up on me, on the last...

Isolate where the problem is: it could be the LCD display or the graphics circuit on the main board. Connect the VGA output of the laptop to an external monitor - one that you know is good. From the function keys, activate the VGA output of the laptop - it's suppose to switch between the LCD display or to the external monitor. Switch it to the external monitor. If the external monitor works, then you have a problem with the LCD display of the laptop.

First conclusion: This is not a software fixable problem. If your notebook is still in warranty, I suggest you to RMA it. No doubt somethings broken.

Laptop boots up intermittently or screen freezes

basing on the information you have given here are the possible solutions:
remove any external device connected to your system (printer, external hard drive and others) if removing this does not work and still gets a blank screen with blinking cursor try to go to safe mode with networking. if successful try to download the driver for your video adapter.

when you try to start the computer , do get anything on the screen like a logo? when does the blank screen occurs, is it during the turning ON of the computer or during the windows xp logo appears on the screen?

a blank screen could be caused by the following: defective video adapter, corrupted video driver, defective memory, unknown device causing the issue like the hard drive, optical drive or other peripheral installed inside the computer.

try also using an external monitor
