I have an reddy heater 170,000 that is about 3 years old. I have changed the fuel filter and all the air filters each year. Along with changing the filters, I have re-adjusted the pump after each change. However, I still am having the fuming problem and now it just produced an new symptom of starting and shutting off after about 3 mins. Any help you can give me on solving this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Please, respond with a model so we can know which technology is used in your heater- spark plug or HSI. It makes a difference when troubleshooting.

If you are using diesel #1 or #2 you hve to change the filter for the fuel line once every 50 hours of use.i have had the same problem over the years.with kerosene you need to change once a year.

One of two things, a high heat limit control or the flame sensor, also check your air line that runs to the heater nozzle could be cracked, not enoughair to fuel mix will make it burn dirty.

Your mixture is too rich. Go to http://www.reddyparts.com which has assistance with setting the fuel balance or get a new control valve from them.

It burns extreamly rich , fumes burn your eyes almost and dont want to start come time even though it has plenty of fuel. there is 2 adjustable knobs on the back . ( which is WHAT i guess to ask ) ...

Hi and Welcome to FixYa.

Go to page 12 of this manual:

http://www.desatech.com/techDocs/DESA%20HSI%20IGNITION%20SERVICE%20MANUAL.pdf

I suspect you have either a dirty air filter or... the pump pressure is higher than 5.3 PSIG The adjustment procedure is on page 12 of the above link.

Also the fuel vent cap is vented. If someone lost the vent rubber piece in the cap of the fuel tank cap it can cause the same symptom. Check the fuel cap per page 21 of the manual above.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Propane 100,000btu heater runs fine but has a lot of fumes, it almost burns your eyes

Go to my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4124129-yearly_maintenance_reddy_heaters for all your answers. Your air fuel mixture is off. You need a new air filter and need to set the bleed air. For that you need special tools which you can get at the information I give at my tip. Let me know if you need anymore help.

In my experience, eye burning is a by product of burning even the best kero. And at 115,000, you are burning a lot.

Ive got a reddy heater pro 155 when you turn it on it runs rich burns youre eyes fumes i took it to a man that works on them here local and he said the board that controls fuel mixture was bad what do you...

Are you sure it is running too rich? Your eyes will also burn if it runs too lean because the hyrocarbon and nitrous oxide balance is off. If too rich, there usually is a smokey vapor that is emited, whereas too lean does not create any seeable vapor.
If youhave a little tech to you, you can over-ride the control board and have the power go directly to the burner (as is in the older burner models). If you get the same results, then you'll know itis not the control board. Goodluck,Macgivor

Burning eyes and sore throat when heater is on

This heater should only be used in a very well ventilated area, the sore throat and burning eyes are from carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide is potentially fatal.  I cannot express how dangerous this is if used in a house or garage without the doors open
Please be careful and let me know if I can provide furthur assistance.
