Question about Hitachi 43FWX20B 43" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Color Alignment The blue color is out of alignment on my set -- a rather large blue spot is evident in the upper left corner. Magic Focus does not fix the problem, so I tried the manual focus. It takes some time to work through the manual focus grid, but looks great when finished. HOWEVER, when I turn the set off and back on the color is severely out of alignment. How do I make it retain the manual focus when the set is turned off and back on again? When this occurs, the only way to get a decent picture back is to run Magic Focus. Then the blue spot returns in the upper left corner.

Re: Color Alignment

Get a shop manual,it tells how to do the whole convergence process and how to store it to the rom memory to save it.

Magic focus --blue and yellow sag in the upper left area of the screen

This is a problem with the convergence circuit. If you can solder, you can repair this yourself. First try and resolder the pins on the existing convergence ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink and should be marked STKxxx. If the resoldering does not resolve the problem, replace the ICs.

Turned on TV this morning and the colors were out of alignment. TV works just looks funny. Tried the magic focus and got most of the screen lined up....except the upper left hand corner where the colors...

There is a convergence output kit for this set. There are probably resistors in the convergence circuit that are starting to loose there values. If you are going to have the set worked on have them install the whole kit which includes the convergence outputs and resistors. Thanks

Yellow and blue color ruins total picture on 50" tv,can't get rid

I'm no expert, but I think that you have a problem with the convergence of the 3 color guns. I've been working on a similar problem. As a first step, have you tried "Magic Focus?" The Magic Focus button for the Hitachi 53UDX10B is at the left of the small front panel controls that also include your RCA composite and SVideo connectors. Let the set warm up for about 20 minutes (as recommended by the user guide), and then press the Magic Focus button. When you press the Magic focus button, the set will auto align the 3 color guns. If this doesn't fix your problem, unplug the TV for at least 4 hours and try again.

Colors are separated on the top from the left to right

Probably the color convergence is off. I had a similar problem. Have you tried the magic focus button yet? That is located at left in the small front control panel. Power on TV, wait 20 min (according to user guide), then press the magic focus. If that doesn't fix the problem, you could try the service mode alignment procedure. But that's a little trickier. I don't have a link handy for that procedure right now, but will look for it if magic focus doesn't re-align your color convergence.

Hitachi 61SDX picture got dim shows Code 3

use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.

Your TV has a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.
Here is a quick test....
Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
You can get a repair kit that includes all the parts from
They have put together a kit for the Hitachi TV sets.
The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc.
Everything you need to fix it yourself. Its a fairly easy fix on the Hitachi sets.
