    I cleaned the unit where the battery goes and it still turns right back off. Do you have another solution?

  • cwalker360 Dec 17, 2008

    No, I have checked that several times.

  • cwalker360 Dec 17, 2008

    No, that didn't work either. It still turns right back off.

That means that there is a short inside (maybe on battery or power wirings), camera main logic board detects it and camra shuts down after one second.
Cameras can go in protect mode like any other modern defective device, when a problem of this kind is detected.

the problem can also be caused by a power on switch stuck on position, or any other switch or control being stuck or shorting out.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls bear with me and address back the battery contacts.
Scrape (not only clean), there would be corrosion that normally cleaning could not remove, scraping exposes the bare metal contacts;

  • at times these battery contacts may have to be bent or stretched a little bit more so as to exert more pressure thus ensuring full contacts with the batteries;
  • jar the camera back into action by thumping it against the palm of your hand. Of course this is not a technical solution but has been proven in some other cases.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Pentax optio w80 waterproof digital camera won't turn on

I had the same problem. I checked the voltage first to ensure it was greater than 3.7V (some batteries were not). I left the door open and pushed the battery down and pressed the button and it powered up. Seems to be a problem with the contacts. I put about 6 layers of duct tape on top of the battery to cause the door to push it down and now it works.

First check the battery. Charge the battery to full condition or change with new battery and try to turn on your camera.
Or you can put off all batteries and memory card, wait for a moment, then put in again and turn on your camera.

Hope this help

Help??

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

If the above didn't work, then consider the following:
