Question about Kenmore Dehumidifiers

Needs to connect drainage hose to dehumidifer

Kenmore dehumidifer model 4615949 - friend gave me this and I have a damp basement. It's a 5 gallon and fills up about once a day. There is a threading in the one part but it needs to have something to kick it on without putting the tank back in. Can't find an owner's manual online. Can you help>

There will be some form of lever or activation device that depresses when the bucket is inserted. There should be a way to move it to a permenant "on position". Make sure you have a model with a humidity sensor or the thing will just run forever. It may be that if your model doesn't have a humidty sensor there is no way to "force" it to stay on although that would make no sense if there is a hose attachment to drain constantly to a sump pump, etc. Have you tried going to a store like Sears and just looking at a dehumidifier? Ask a clerk how the thing works if you attach a hose to it. You might be surprised what you can learn from just nosing around the hardware and small appliance section.

With this model is there a way to attach a hose to it so that I can leave it running continuously while the hose is draining into drainage hole in my basement? m7dh65b2a

Yes, there is a way to do it. As a matter of fact, your model (now discontinued) came with a short section of hose. However, you can still use a short 5' section of garden hose and achieve the same results. To find the hose connection (if you don't have your Owners Manual) remove the bucket and you should see what looks like a hose connection (which it is) behind where the bucket sits in the unit. If it is not there, inspect the back of the humidifier for a small 2"x 2" pop-out compartment door. Inside of that is the hose connection. Remember, dehumidifiers do not have pumps to pump the water out, they rely on gravity for water to flow through and out of the hose.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks

Our dehumidifier is full of ice, is this normal or an indication of more serious problem. It is 3 1/2 years old and has been in constant use since purchased.

If the room tempature is close to 60, the coils may be frozen (completely encased in ice). If this is the case, move it where the water can drain off - about 1 gallon which may NOT run into the drain bucket.
I out mine over the floor drain.
Turn off and it will defost over night.
Only specially made dehumidifers work below a room temo of 60 degrees (the temp of a basement in winter).
Does it need to be running? A digital humidity sensot from Radio Shack is cheap and may tell you the humidity is OK - only 50% or less.

My dehumidifier runs, but no water is collecting. Humidity in the house is about 57%. The unit is only 3 months old.

My dehumidifier does not collect any water.

One of two things is happening here.

1. Either the compressor isn't running or...

2. The water is not being routed to the collection bucket properly. This dehumidifier has an option to connect to a hose that can be routed to a drain. Look in the back of the unit to see if you see a connection that could accomidate a garden hose. If you see this and there is no hose connected you may be dumping the water on the floor instead of the bucket. This could explain why your carpets are damp.

Dehumidifier runs, but bucket has very little water in it.

Hi,
There are many reasons for a dehumidifier2_bing.gif to not work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier2_bing.gif.

Hose connector

First, is the dehumidifier high enough so that the hose isn't 'backing up'? Otherwise, attach a small radiator hose clamp to hold it on.
