The problem is in the picture tube board circuit. Sometimes the CRT socket doesnt connect well to the CRT pins. Or maybe there have bad solders from RGB transistors. check those transistors, Also the bad thermistor discolored the entire tv screen.
Find the vertical IC and check for very small cracks on the solder joints of its pins and resolder (approx. 10 Pins). Also check in the same area for a 1 micro farad at 50 vdc capacitor that goes bad and replace it.
i cleaned the dust, then tapped on the two little black boxes that have like a sparkplug wire going to the tv tube its been 3 weeks and still works fine.
Likely to be the STK convergence chips causing a protection circuit to cut in and switch the TV off when turned on. Do you hear clicking when you switch on?
I had the same thing happen to me 3 times and the first time it was 2 months off of warranty. It is costing me $395.00 each time, the TV is only 7 years old. Lets see I paid $2400.00 for the TV and also have another $1185.00 into it for repairs, and it is doing the same thing again. My suggestion would be NEVER buy another Toshiba product. I find it interesting that their website says "As a proven technology leader, Toshiba is committed to the goal of
ensuring that, to every customer, the Toshiba name remains synonymous
with lasting quality, durability, and value." WHAT A LOAD OF ****!!!
95% 0f the time when this happens to a toshiba projection or regular set, the power regulator IC is bad. It is a componet that should be replaced by a service technician as there are too many points inside this set that can zap you and hurt you. If thats the only problem your talking in the range of 175 to 250 to repair this set. Good Luck
Sounds like a problem in your VCR IF what your saying is when the screen goes dark and you turn off the VCR then the screen on the tv returns to normal?? Does this happen with the vcr on and the tape not playing?? No Ok you have a problem in the video processor Ic or the circuit but most likly the IC as Ive seen this already twice in a toshiba VCR. No if it happens even when the VCR is on but the tapes not plying and the vcr is sitting, and the screen fades The problem is the on screen disply IC in the vcr. seen this a dozon or so times already. Vcrs no a days are not worth the money to invest Unless you got a really good one from the past, BUT you can by a good on for these times for well under 100 bucks . Good Luck
