Question about Staples Swingline® 36115 Staple Guns Tools 1, 000 /box, Light-Duty, 5/16
I have a swingling heavy duty stapler and it does staple but only after you open up the top of it [as if to put more staples in it]. I think there is a problem with the spring but i am not sure how to fix it. And I have the right staples for it, heavy duty ones that have the model of the stapler on the box.
The Model #: 77701/15
When you lift up the top of the stapler (as though you are going to put staples in), does the pusher slide freely back and forth? It might be getting stuck at some point and not pushing the staples (either due to a worn pusher spring, or friction). First (after removing the staples) try spraying some light oil on the mechanism and lifting the top part of the stapler up and down a few times and observe how easily it moves back and forth. Also, with the top open try GENTLY sliding back and forth a little - if it slides fine with no sticking, try loading staples and using stapler. If it slides ok, but doesn't quickly return to it's "normal position" when pulled so as to put tension on the spring, rhen the spring may be worn and need replacing.

I have a 77701/15 model swingline with the same problem. It was the as kosmikkurt had described: the pusher was not sliding smoothly. I spent so much time adjusting the "bend" in the pusher that i didn't realize it was the channel slot that had the problem. Basically, my pusher was sliding out of the grooves because the slot got "widened" somehow. All i did was use a pair of pliers to squeeze the wider section so that the channel was parallel and now the pusher stays within the grooves. Simple as that.

Swingline heavy duty staplers provide the power to staple up to 120 pages of 20-lb. paper easily and consistently. The all-metal construction of these staplers makes them an indispensible office tool. However, the way to load staples into a Swingline heavy duty stapler differs from the method for loading most other manual staplers and can cause a little confusion.
