Dear you havent mentioned that you are on wireless or on Lan.
any way... issue is that your both systems have the same ip addresses and now you have to change ip address of any one of them..
i recommend you to change ip address of your desktop computer.

here is the way to change it...

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
  2. Right-click the network connection that is connected to the private ICS network, and then click Properties.
  3. On the General tab, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the This connection uses the following items list, and then click Properties.
  4. On the General tab, click Use the following IP address. Configure the entries as follows: (if the option is selected that "obtain the ip automaticaly" then leave dont follow the given instructions and msg me again)
    • IP Address: . just change the last value of your ip address. say its 192.168.1.20 .. change the last value to any other two digit value..
leave the other configurations as it is.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Ok
Now try it..

Rate me if you think it helps you..

Hi,

What is the operating system of your laptop? Is it running Windows Vista or XP? Can you check if you're getting an IP address wirelessly?

Go to start>run>type cmd and then hit enter.

On the black screen type, ipconfig/all and see if you're getting an IP address similar to the IP address of the other working computers. If not, then that is the problem, that means that the wireless security that was entered on your new laptop is incorrect. To make sure that you entering the correct key, save your security key on a notepad and then copy and paste it on your wireless adapter settings.

Netgear WG602 wireless router, Connection Local only !

What I think is you unplgged them at the wrong times.

Do this:
(in this order)
  1. Turn off the router.
  2. Turn off the modem.
  3. take out all the Ethernet cords from the router, EXCEPT the one coming from the modem
  4. Now turn the modem on.
  5. Wait for the lights, then wait about another minute for it to settle.
  6. Turn on the router, make sure the Internet,Lan,Wlan, etc lights are on and functional if it doesn't display a light let me know.
  7. Now depending on what your wireless network (SSID) is called try to connect to it. Go to Start>Network>Click Network And Sharing Center at the top>on the left select Manage Wireless Networks>now click add, if your network is already on the list shown select it and click remove otherwise click "Add" click "add network in reange of this computer" select your network name and click connect.
Now tell me the errors, like if it says connection limited,etc...

Thanks,
Cam

Vista compatibility

Vista has very little drivers for equipment sad but true. However in your case you can use Airport Extream. However here is what an apple tech had to say: If you are a Vista user and you don't have access to a Mac, you will not be able to get this working. Apple hasn't yet stirred itself to release a version of Airport Express Assistant that works with Windows Vista - you can't set it up via Windows' own networking software and nor does the Airport Admin Utility work under Vista. It installs and you can run it, but it returns error messages if you try and connect to the Airport Express. I had to use a Mac to get it working, though once it's set up as a client to your existing wireless network, you can stream from iTunes on a Vista PC to the Airport Express. The documentation is very poor, too, with this: I had to do extensive Googling first to track down the fact that I couldn't set it up with Vista and second to identify the device's IP address and default password. Having said that, it is a breeze to set up via a Mac and works like a dream witih Vista once it's up and running. But don't bother if you have Vista until Apple updates the software. Was this review helpful to you?
