I have the same problem on 21 dec.

I fixed it temporarily in connecting a slave VGA monitor and removing the battery. When it start, the bios screen (Phoenix) appears on the VGA monitor, then XP start.

The monitor of the laptop stay black until the start of the blue windows screen appears.

I have been infected by a virus, called 2u.com. I reinstalled windows and then the problem appears. Maybe the bios was affected

Try the following things and try to bring it up after each action:
1) Remove and reinstall your memory module(s)
2) Remove the CD drive, any PCMCIA cards, flash drives, all but 1 memory module and anything else that you might have connected to te system.
3) Remove the hard drive and try to bring the system up. You should get a message that sez something to the effect that the OS can't be found.
Let me know what happens and we'll go from there.
Thanks, and have a good one!

The screen on my toshiba satellite a135-s2386 has a red hue for the second that it remains on during start up. It will display fine on an external monitor. If an external monitor is not connected, and you...

This sounds like a problem with the back light. The back light is generally a small cool fluorescent light. The problem could be with either the fluorescent light or the inverter board that supplies the voltage to run the lamp. If you are able to disassemble it yourself you can usually buy an inverter and lamp online. This requires a good amount of dis-assembly and expertise but costs less. At a higher price but less expertise is a complete lcd display including frame and covers. This basically just requires removal of the top cover of the laptop to access the screws that hold the display on and access to the cables.

Best of luck, Jim

Toshiba satellllite m100 suddenly shut off after using it for half an hour to an hour

Is it getting hot? If so it will shut itself off to prevent damage and probably needs the fan cleaned out to improve airflow.

Laptop toshiba satellite p200 bw5 screen goes dark as if darkness/brightness was adjusted - but not Thanks

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs a Backlight to help illuminate the screen.

Power for the Backlight is produced by an Inverter. An Inverter also provides power for the LCD screen.
It reduces voltage for the Backlight, and increases Voltage for the LCD screen, from the laptop's power.

Most of the time a dark LCD screen can be attributed directly to a bad Inverter. (Around 90 percent)

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light.
VERY similar to the fluorescent lights you see used in residential, and commercial applications.
(Homes, and businesses)
Only on a MUCH smaller scale in physical size, and needed power to operate.
When a Backlight goes bad, it just goes all at once. Not goes dark as you have stated.

(Your statement meant to me that you power on the laptop, the LCD screen shows well, then goes dark)

Just one of many places that offers an Inverter for your Satellite P200.

NOTE*
1) ALL power removed from the laptop before beginning.
AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

2) The screws you will remove, may have screws that look alike, but are NOT.
Do Not mix them up.
For this reason it is suggested to use a multi-compartment container, and label the compartments for where the screws came out of.
You can use a clean egg container, and label the individual egg holders, in a pinch.

IMHO it isn't hard to perform this repair, and you can do it. Save yourself money.

Paul, Georgiana and You, 1. do you have an antivirus installed on your laptop? if not, then install one rightaway. 2. also from start->control panel->system->hardware->display adapters and monitor. uninstall the display adapters and reinstall them. similarly uninstall and reinstall the monitor drivers. 3. go to http://www.drivershq.com/Drivers/Toshiba/Satellite/A45-S130/4183/9941/10606/Drivers.aspx you will find here a driver detective that can detect your driver problems. try with that. 4. on the site above you will find drivers, for you to download and install on your laptop. if you still have problems, then you have

LCD starts to display for about 2 seconds then goes dark.

lamp(s) perhaps.... with an LCD monitor (the desktop kind) you can shine a lite behind it. if you can see things on the screen it's the lamps... if you can't it's something else.

HP Pavilion, Screen working, but extremely dark!

Hi,
As per your description, I find that the issue is with the LCD Backlight which is also called as LCD Inverter which lights up the LCD to show us the Display on the LCD Display.
If this Backlight is gone bad, you will be barely able to see the Display on the LCD.
Coming to the Noise you had mentioned above can be from the Cooling fans of the Notebook which will be spinning at high speed when the Notebook starts and will reduce gradually after few minutes.
I recommend you to try cleaning the Cooling fan vents using any Vacuum Cleaner or Air Blower.
I recommend you to contact any nearest HP Authorized Service Center and get the LCD Backlight replaced.
Hope this helps....
