Go to Control Panel>Device Manager to see if there are any yellow exclamation marks next to any devices. Also in Control Panel go to Sound or Audio Devices to see if there are any audio devices listed in Hardware. Without knowing which operating system I cannot guide you step-by-step but if this is a driver or hardware not recognized issue you can go to the manufacturer web site for drivers if you do not have a drivers cd. Here's the drill: Go to this link and enter your exact model number:http://www.hp.com/#Support. After you do that you will be asked your operating system, XP then a list of drivers will be provided. You need to download the chipset drivers, the audio drivers and any other drivers applicable to your hardware.   There is also a hardware auto-detect feature there where your computer will be automatically detected and the same list of drivers provided with an option to install directly or just download if you are not using the same computer for which you need drivers.  A folder called "hp" will be created on your C drive. Go to Control Panel>System>Device Manager and you will see a yellow exclamation mark, !, next to all of the devices that need drivers. Click on those devices, go to Update Driver and point the browse window to that "hp" folder and the drivers will be loaded.  Burn these drivers to disk so that if you reinstall in the future you are good to go. Let me know if you have any questions and I will help. Steve Medley

Honestly, try harder. If you've taken the thing apart, you're more than half way there. You probably just need to unscrew more stuff and pry more parts out.

Sound Driver for HP 9000z Windows XP

The sound driver can be downloaded from the HP website. Here is the link. There are two downloads. Not sure which one you will need. However they are both for xp. Here is the link
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3224049.

Download the files to your desktop and run them. Reboot and you should have sound.

I hope this fixes your sound issue.

Please rate.
