Question about Lexmark X7170 All-In-One InkJet Printer
My lexmark all in one is giving me a message saying right cartridge incorrect. Have checked it and it seems fine, any suggestions please?
This solution (RESET the BRICK - solution 1 above) worked for me!
I had a brand new out of the box Lexmark X4580 and after one or two prints I was suddenly getting a "Left Cartridge Incorrect" error showing on the Printer Control Panel and the printer would now all me to print anything.
After about an hour of trying this and that (cartridges in, out and shalen all about!) ; no avail, I tried this and hey presto, it worked.
When I removed the "Brick" power supply I left it until the Green LED had faded right out though, I dont know if that was significant or not. Fingers crossed all is sorted now!

Error: "Right Cartridge Incorrect" on a Lexmark X7170 All-In-One ID:ENUS24016 Cause The Right Cartridge Incorrect error message generally indicates a communication error between the All-In-One and the cartridge. This can be due to a faulty cartridge or to a simple interruption in the communication between the cartridge and the All-In-One. The procedures below will help you identify the cause and resolve the issue. Rebricking the All-In-One and Resetting the Factory Defaults NOTE: The embedded links lead to specific troubleshooting documents. Step Action 1 Power off the All-In-One and remove the power adapter (brick) from the back of the unit. Wait 20 seconds, reinsert the adapter, and power the unit on. Did the error message return? Yes: Continue to step 2. No: Print a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved. 2 Reset the All-In-One's factory defaults (click here for instructions). Did the error message return? Yes: Continue to Checking the Cartridges. No: Print a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved. Checking the Cartridges NOTE: The embedded links lead to specific troubleshooting documents. Step Action 1 Open the top cover of the All-In-One. Remove both cartridges. Close the top cover. 2 Power off the All-In-One and remove the power supply brick from the back of the unit. 3 Reinsert the power supply brick into the back of the All-In-One and power the unit back on. Does the error message reappear? Yes: Skip to Contacting Lexmark below. There is a hardware issue with your printer and you need to contact our technical support center. No: Continue to step 4. 4 Clean the cartridge contacts (click here for instructions) and the AIO carrier contacts (click here for instructions). Continue to step 5. 5 Power the AIO on, reinsert the black/photo cartridge, and close the top cover. Power the All-In-One off and then on again. Does the error message reappear? Yes: Power the unit off and try step 5 with another black/photo cartridge. If the error persists with the new cartridge, proceed to Contacting Lexmark. No: Continue to step 6. 6 Power the AIO on, reinsert the color cartridge, and close the top cover. Power the All-In-One off and then on again. Does the error message reappear? Yes: Power the unit off and try step 6 with another color cartridge. If the error persists with the new cartridge, proceed to Contacting Lexmark. No: Try printing a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved Contacting Lexmark Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional assistance. NOTE: When calling for service, you will need to know your printer model type and serial number. If you need help locating this information, click here. When replacing a standard Colour cartrige 33, dont make the mistake of thinking that a photo colour cartridge 31 will do the trick, oh no, the photo clour sits in the black 32 spot next to the colour cartridge. otherwise you can get a right cartridge incorrect message.Then spend an hour onto Lexmark Tech support that havent a clue. Hope this helps someone.

I had this same problem and I have just discovered that there is a software fix on the lexmark website: http://support.lexmark.com/perl/support/support.cgi#
It's a "firmware update" I wish I knew this a month and two ink cartridges ago...

Sadly, Lexmark is limiting the copies per cartridge. There are electronic means on the print head to derail you after a certain amount of copies per cartridge. The suggestions above work if the system "hiccups" and you are still in the usable count range.
Just Papa bear limiting how many warts can **** his puss.
Sincerely this is a sign of the "greedy" times.

I have the same error message after I have installed an original Lexmark black cartridge.
I tried the solution suggested by Jazzer2007 and it worked..... Thank you so much!!!!

Have you refilled this cartridge? I have the same problem and research shows that it could be that Lexmark deliberately program their printers to refuse a refilled cartridge!!!??? I have mailed Lexmark on this and am awaiting an answer...

Alswag, I tried your suggestion, and now I get an error msg when printing that says, "an unknown error occurred while printing".
And I don't remember which boxes were originally checked, that I UN-checked! HELP!

A quick work-around to just get a document printed was to remove the printer thinks is incompatible.
