I wonder if it is down to lexmark putting a killer chip in the cartridges to prevent refilling. I am getting the msame message with left (black) cartridges

  • betty64 Nov 30, 2007

It will not print and it says the right cartridge is incorrect

    Hi there

I just replaced both cartridges in my Lexmark X5470 and I am getting the error message "right cartridge incorrect". Both new cartridges are genuine Lexmark and I have managed to print in black and white only. I have followed the recommended Users guidelines to no avail. Any suggestions?

  • Anonymous Dec 11, 2007

Have the same problem with the left cartridge. Unplugging both the brick and power to the brick didn't work.

Does that leave the cartridge itself as the culprit? Another printer we worked on with this type of error had a button combination that reset this message.

Will never never never buy another Lexmark. Technical Support line has not solved my problem. I was reassured that if I purchased a new right cartridge that my problem would go away. It did...for one day! I have heard nothing but complaints from all of my co-workers about these all in one Lexmark machines. The strangest thing though is that I have the exact same model in my office at work and it has never caused any problems. I however cannot afford to waste money on yet another cartridge that might work for one day. The tech guy walked me through all the steps as posted on line and nother has worked. A piece of Junk

i also having this problem, but my printer is X3350, after i replace black cartridge few day, it started prompt out Right Cartridge Incorrect, i went to lexmark web already, i follow what excatly lexmark web say, and i suspect is hardware issue, if i dont want send to service centre, i want repair by myself, can some one help me out? Thank you, hope you reply me as soon as you can, my email - isd@netlabs.com.my

I have the same problem.  At first just thought that the cartridge was out of ink and I was going to get a new color cartridge when got a chance (and could afford)...but after searching the "right cartridge incorrect" message on the internet, am now afraid that that is not the problem.  So far, my printer will not print at all, even with just the black (left) cartridge, which according to the system has plenty of ink left.  Can not afford to buy a new color cartridge to try in case this does not do anything to make the thing print.  Very frustrating!  (Can still at least scan.)

Does anyone know of a way to at least be able to print in black and white when getting the "right cartridge incorrect" problem?  Thanks.

  • clearlight Aug 06, 2008

I have this problem and have just been able to get it to work with the black cartridge. I turned the printer off , removed the colour cartridge, switched it back on then just pressed select when it said the cartridge was missing and pressed continue on the error message on the computer screen.

  • Yunggoh Aug 18, 2008

I have the same error message after I have installed an original Lexmark black cartridge.

I tried the solution suggested by Jazzer2007 and it worked..... Thank you so much!!!!

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2009

I removed the "brick" waited, reinserted, and the printer now won't power up.

  • Anonymous Apr 17, 2009

Two in a row did this and Lexmark gives me the standard "We're so sorry to have an unhappy customer" BS, but has been no real help at all.

  • Anonymous May 05, 2009

yes, same issue for me too!

This solution (RESET the BRICK - solution 1 above) worked for me!

I had a brand new out of the box Lexmark X4580 and after one or two prints I was suddenly getting a "Left Cartridge Incorrect" error showing on the Printer Control Panel and the printer would now all me to print anything.

After about an hour of trying this and that (cartridges in, out and shalen all about!) ; no avail, I tried this and hey presto, it worked.

When I removed the "Brick" power supply I left it until the Green LED had faded right out though, I dont know if that was significant or not. Fingers crossed all is sorted now!

I should also say that I saw many, many brands of printer, including Dell and HP with these issues as well and it looks like there is a common theme here. Who ever makes the hardware that is being used in these brands really needs to sort these issues out as I was about to take this printer back to the store in the morning and demand a refund.

These glitches are VERY bad for business and in this day and age big companies should have these kinds of things ironed out way before the product hits the shelves!

When replacing a standard Colour cartrige 33, dont make the mistake of thinking that a photo colour cartridge 31 will do the trick, oh no, the photo clour sits in the black 32 spot next to the colour cartridge. otherwise you can get a right cartridge incorrect message. Then spend an hour onto Lexmark Tech support that havent a clue. Hope this helps someone.

I had this same problem and I have just discovered that there is a software fix on the lexmark website: http://support.lexmark.com/perl/support/support.cgi#
It's a "firmware update" I wish I knew this a month and two ink cartridges ago...

Sadly, Lexmark is limiting the copies per cartridge. There are electronic means on the print head to derail you after a certain amount of copies per cartridge. The suggestions above work if the system "hiccups" and you are still in the usable count range.
Just Papa bear limiting how many warts can **** his puss.
Sincerely this is a sign of the "greedy" times.

    1) refill #34, insert into printer X5495, printer shows "left cartridge incorrect".
    2) Tape one contact at left low corner, reinsert into printer, printer shows "left cartridge missing".
3)On computer, find the printer, select properties, select advance, uncheck last 4 squares, check print directly to printer.
    4)print any white/black pages.

    It works!

  • nellieou Feb 10, 2011

I tried the taping technqieu but can't get the printer to show "left cartridge missing". Maybe I'm not taping in the correct spots? This is so frustrating.

The error is telling you that the color or black cartridge is missing. It's not recognizing one of your cartridges, most probably the new black cartridge. Here's a link to the Lexmark website to guide you on what to do with that problem. http://bit.ly/bkCWPF

MESSAGE SAYS RIGHT CARTRIDGE INCORRECT

Hello there:
what this is refering to is that the cartridge is either not the right one for the printer or the device is having a problem with that cartridge i would remove the cartridge and verify that it is the right one that goes in their and also since youare having the cartridge out i would clean out the contact area to get rid of the old ink that may be sitting on the contact areas ok

Lexmark X4530 Incorrect Cartridges.

By any chance did you get these cartridges refilled? If so then you may be out of luck as I read that Lexmark chip their cartridges/printers to reject refilled cartridges. I have the same problem at the moment just with the right (colur) cartridge. The cartridge is an original refillable Lexmark (i.e. grey box) I got the cartridge refilled twice and it worked fine, but the third time no joy. Research indicate that Lexmark program their printers to reject cartridges refilled 3 times!!

Refilled cartridge , printer says right cartridge incorrect

Lexmark builds intelligence into their cartridges and printers to prevent the use of refilled cartridges.

Lexmark has never approved the use of anyone else's ink for their printers primarily because there is no way to prove the quality of the ink.

Please purchase a Lexmark cartridge.

Right cartridge incorrect

If it says to check the right cartridge (Black), replace it with a brand new one or one you know is good.

Walgreens will test and refill your cartridge for ~$10.00 (black).

I have heard of new OEM HP cartridges being bad.

The printer checks the cartridge level sensor and the electrical stuff.
