Question about Intervideo WinDVD 5 for PC

1 Answer

Overlay Error I can no longer play DVD's on my computer althouth I have Windows Media Center and WinDVD and all the other major players installed. They all work with audio and used to fully function when playing video. I keep getting the error message: " Overlay Error, Lower Color Resolution, etc." I've lowered the color and resolution settings to various levels and nothing works. The company's website gives this as the only solution. What can I do to resolve this issue?

Re: Overlay Error

What version of DirectX are you using? Have you installed any programs recently that may have installed a lower version of DirectX? Do you have Novell Networking? the above site states the same problem. Have you tried a firmware update for the dvd player? Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim

Your display enviroment does not support protected content playback We are trying to play a blue Ray disc

First of all, do you have a BlueRay disc player in the computer, or just a DVD player? Also, from what I can tell, WinDVD 5 only supports DVD playback, not BlueRay. That may be why it's seeing "protected content". It just doesn't recognize the disc. If you do have a BlueRay player, you may need to upgrade to a newer version of WinDVD, or try some other software.

I can't play DVDs on my HP laptop even though I could in the past

May I suggest that you try other programs to play your DVD's. Such as VLC media player. This program can play any meida file and is free. Also you could try gom player. Both of these are available off As to why your DVD's aren't playing. It may be bcause you have changed regions or because the DVD file is not recognized by the players because they don't have the ability to play certain fornats.
