I was watching TV when it made a loud pop and quit working, I unplugged the set and checked the main fuse, all OK. I checked for power at the main board where the cord goes into and along other areas at the red & black wires. I have power, but the unit still won't turn on.I forgot to add it makes a strange noise too, kind of like a CD drive turning/rubbing. I am not familar with TV electronics (cars yes, tv's no), is there any online manuel or diagram showing me the parts layout and location. By reading these fixes here sounds like I may have a HV flyback tranformer problem. Could this be my problem. My Model # is 50700, production date 08/99 I will add my s/n# later. All of this happened right after my power came back on after gettiing knocked out from Gustav! Thanks i hv the same on a rca ps60682
The loud pop you heard was a part just blowing up and becoming non functional. Look for a bad capacitor - they can go out with a bang!
Since the set is dead the issue might very well be in the power supply - start there since those units are very vulnerable to failure.
