Yes, TIVO recordings store the video using MPEG-2 compression and include copyright protection. To retain its intact video quality, you can use a copy-protection removal program. In this way, protection is removed and the original video will be kept to be compatible with common media player. The program I recommend is Pavtube Video Converter which provides "Directly copy" option. Just input your TIVO access key, choose directly copy and you will get copy-free MPEG 2 video with extreme speed. I bought this program mainly to convert recorded TIVO videos for my iPad 3. This program provides presets for ipad. The output videos play perfectly in my iPad.
You can mount it as a storage drive, copy/delete audio files from it.
If it isn't able to mount it automatically, then try making a folder in /media/ following this illustration;
(Open your terminal)
$ cd /media/
$ sudo mkdir mp3
$ sudo fdisk -l (This is to find where your mp3 player is)(Note: It's sd*)
$ sudo mount /dev/sd* /media/mp3
If you don't receive any errors, simply open your file-manager and it should be in the sidebar.
Here's the best bet - there are pdf instructions for upgrading the software and a few other functions, but no user's manual for it per se: http://www.harley-davidson.com/cp/moar/en/overview.asp?locale=en_US&bmLocale=en_US&WebLogicSession=IxPr8hMLlpTeiAo8tqS42O5oe0q8OxNYxkSMGILPXoq8DHdmO3IE!-608879135!hdijunapppr08.ihd.hd!7005!8005&HDCWPSession=43nTLxPTw2cyWmlLHvR8BY0pqGFrtc8n5f6GQL4PvhTDBmHHhWQP!1924091048!-135590298

Here's what you do. Make sure that you can play one of the sample videos to your TV. Next, stop and go to the home screen. Next, if your external HD has a powersource, plug that into the wall and the device so that it has power. Next plug the usb cable into the side of the DVR Station. The device screen (or the tv if you are still on tv out) should say, external device connecting. It will show the double browser screen and then just go to the file desired and click on OK. If the device doesnt recgnize and mount the external hd, could be because there is not enough power to the ext. HD or the HD is formatted in somehting other than fat32.
