I tried that and they told me 2 more MB's that will make it 8 I will be offered a buy out, either my money back or a new pc ?

  • mrob394 Dec 16, 2008

Well here is a little update,I was told and also read on the website that Acer Warranty does not count against the extended Walmart Warranty, and there is a no lemon policy. If the unit requires a fourth repair it will be replaced with a unit of equal or greater value, or they will refund the purchase price including tax. So all I have to do is wait, I have 13 months left on the warranty and odd's are it will happen again, only time will tell.

Sounds like a major problem. I n't know if the lemon law applies to computers, but after the 3rd MB replacement, I personally would have started trying to get a new replacement laptop, not just parts.

Reminds me a of a story from days of Yore. I had purchased a Packard Bell desktop. Nothing fancy, but good enough to serve my purposes. Shortly after the purchase, the floppy drive failed. At the time, I was working exclusively on IBM pc's, so I had a solid diagnostic philosophy and had determined that the floppy was, without a doubt, defective. I went to the point of jury rigging an old IBM floppy to work until the replacement arrived. They wouldn't send me a replacement and insisted on sending someone out to replace it (Ah,those were the days.) Anyway, this guy came out and replaced it. Within a couple of days, that floppy drive failed! I called back and they wanted to go through the same process, and I was not in the mood to do that. After a lengthy and fruitless discussion, I was no where near being satisfied. Did some research, came up with the name of the CEO of Packard Bell and gave him a call. We had quite a discussion and 3 days later I ended up with a new computer being delivered to my door. On the invoice, a note had been written by the CEO that stated that they were to send me one of their high end systems, which was much more than what I originally purchased.
The moral of the story is that you should be able to get your replacement or refund now. You've been through enough. All you need to do is to find the right chain to **** in any company. If the first person you talk to can't, or won't, help to your satisfaction, don't accept a callback! Stay on the phone until you get the next higher person on the phone. Be insistent and assertive, but not aggressive. Talk to them nicely, but firmly, and explain to them step by step what you have gone through to this point in time. Who knows? Might work and is certainly worth the time.
Hope this helps and best of luck.

Monitor wont recieve signal from computer aspire m3641

Your Acer Aspire computer system is not POSTing, or passing the Power On Self Test.

Claim warranty support before trying the following as opening the chassis in some cases voids current warranty.

Open the side panel of the computer chassis and remove the RAM modules. Clean the gold fingered connectors of the RAM modules with tissue paper. Once completed clean the actual RAM slots/dimms on the mainboard. Carefully use a vacuum cleaner.

Reinstall the RAM modules in the correct orientation. Power on the computer system.

Display chip in the motherboard is not functioning in my Acer Aspire 1410-8414 Net book

If it's still in warranty, then Acer will fix it free of charge.

If not in warranty, disconnecting and reconnecting the cable that joins the display to the mainboard may fix it. It may be a dirty connection, a dead inverter board, or even dead backlight (incorporated into the lcd panel itself) or the entire lcd could be shot. It could also be the onboard video chip. Also try connecting the netbook to an external monitor. If you power the netbook on with an external monitor connected, it should light up the external monitor. Also, it may not be the display...... Try removing and reseating the ram. Try just one ram chip if there is more than one. The unit may just also be dead (mainboard). Try the warranty route first. Acer also has a flat fee they charge to do a mainboard in Canada ($199). Call Acer first.

Hope this helps! Let me know how you make out.

Regards,

Joe

My acer aspire one does not boot up. I hear the hard drive spinning but the screen does not light and I can't detect any activity.

Hi

Have you tried a external display? If you do get picture on a external monitor then most likely the backlight inverter on your laptop is faulty and would need to be replaced, but please take it to a professional to confirm the fault before purchasing the part, also if you are in warranty please just contact acer for warranty repairs which are free aside from possible shipping charges.

Now if you are outside of warranty then you could possibly replace it yourself, but I would still recommend that you get someone to confirm the fault before replacing the part. Or if you look at the screen if you see faint picture but no backlight then that confirms it, try under a light.

If there is no picture on any of the displays internal or external, then check your keyboard, you may have to press a button combination like FN+F8 it could be any of the F1 to f12 keys that switches the display output. windows might need to be started for it to work.

Now if you don't get any picture the laptop is most likely not starting up properly, its not passing the start up tests that it runs.

Generally what you can do in a case like this is to remove the battery and the ac adapter for 10 minutes and try again with just the ac adapter then unplug and try with the battery.

If its still not working you could have a bad mainboard, you can try taking out the memory modules from the bottom of the laptop, they will be under a cover that is held in place with a screw or two and plastic clips on its sides.

first disconnect the battery and the power adapter.

Open up the cover, insidey ou will find 1-2 memory modules.
fed692f.jpg

Take them both out, plug in the ac adapter, power on with no memory modules installed. do you hear beeping or similar?

If it does beep take note of how many long or short beeps or is it continuos?

Unplug and take the other module and install it to one of the slots, don't do anything with the other one yet.

Plug in the power again and try turning on, if you get picture then the issue is solved, if not, then turn off the machine and unplug.

Take the memory card out and try it on the other slot, repeat the test you just did and if the issue still remains then take out the module again, and this time take the other one and do the same test on both slots.

If that doesn't help, unplug and put all the ram back into the machine and close the cover, try turning on for once more.

If the machine is still not starting up, you could have a faulty mainboard, if you are in warranty get in touch with acer or your dealer.

if you are outside of warranty take the machine to a local professional to confirm the fault and get a repair estimate, the mainboard would most likely need to be replaced, the mainboard is the most costly part of the machine you might end up with a repair bill higher than the price of a new one.

My daughter's acer extensa 5620z won't start. battery is charged, press power, does a couple of things then powers off, nothing displayed

hi

this is most likely a internal problem possibly with the mainboard. It would be best to contact your dealer or acer directly If you are on warranty.

If you are outside of warranty take the laptop to a local professional for testing.

Need to replace cd/dvd rom

Is the laptop still under manufacturer's warranty?
Was it purchased on a credit-card that offers an "extended" warranty?
If not, then purchase an external CD/DVD unit, because that will be less expensive than buying a replacement from the manufacturer, and paying a qualified computer-technician to disassemble your laptop, remove the "dead" drive, and connect the "new" drive.

Lcd back light ptoblem

Could be a problem with the mainboard, or the tube in the screen, or you recieved a dead lcd inverter.
If your not getting voltage to the inverter, but you can see a picture correctly on an external monitor, you may have a bad cable, or mainboard.
Check all fuses near where the lcd cable connects to the mainboard (you may need to look on the reverse (underneath side) of the board.

On one acer I'm currently working on,(that had a smashed screen, I installed a replacement screen, and had the same issue. So I replaced the inverter - same. I tried a good test tube on the inverter - nothing. I then disassembled the notebook and removed the mainboard. On the opposite site to the lcd connector I found a fuse labelled F2 (near a larger fuse labeled F1). This has shorted out.

I would test this before assuming the new inverter is dead.
I suspect that by replacing that you will get power to the inverter.

Unfortunately I dont know the rating of the fuse, however. I presume 12v but no idea on amp rating

Good luck

Motherboard fried for no reason and suddenly

I understand your pain. Acer has a extensive case-history of motherboards that die or quit for no reason. Do a search and you will find forums full of complaints where the machine just quit for no reason and did not start ever again.

I repair laptops for a living and see dead Acers in here all the time. Replacing the motherboard of a dead laptop is not easy. If you know how to work on computers, make sure you have a Service Manual for that make and model to make sure you can reassemble the computer. I do NOT recommend this.

I also do not recommend replacing the motherbaord at all. Firstly, only an ACER mainboard for that particular model will work - and secondly if you have to pay for another mainboard plus installation, the cost of labor and parts will likely exceed the value of the machine - which even if repaired with a new mainboard - could conk out on you all over again.

My advice - consider it totaled, invest your money in a newer model, and think twice before you buy Acer again.

Acer aspire 3680 will not power on battery and powercord are new

The battery is dead and/or your powersupply isn't working properly, or your memory is loose. first open the little door on the back where the ram is at and reseat it, then try to power it on, if that doesn't work take it to a professional nad have them test the power supply, if it tests ok, see if it is under acer warranty (acer.com) if it is send it in, if it isn't goto tigerdirect.com and buy a new one for around 300.00 don't waste any money on that computer.

Wal-mart's computer care is a scam.

I work for the Wal-Mart PC Care program. The PC Care program is free, it provides assistance in installing a year worth of virus protection. Anything beyond that is on a pay for fee service. It does not replace the original Dell warranty (which as pointed out) you were under. The little card board disk hold clearly states that you should save your receipt here. The receipt can be generated again at the local store. A customer can also purchase an extended service that comes info effect after the original warranty expires. It is not a bad plan, but it does pay to read and know what the plan covers. You still need to contact Dell as you are under their warranty. Pre-existing conditions are not covered by any extended service plan.

Ilo 32hd tv from InitialTech

I own an ILO TV that is still under the extended warranty. I've had it repaired twice since May 08 and it has failed again. Since it is still under warranty, I will send it back in to be repaired.... again. If I were you, I'd cut my losses and buy a new TV from any store except Walmart.
