Had same problem on my v20.

    total power down cleared fault.

I suspect I had speaker cable short circuit, but only guessing.

  • bwalls Dec 15, 2008

i was able to clear it with the power down earlier today. Had the problem re-appear about 2 hours later. I'd had the unit for less than 2 weeks, so we exchanged it at BestBuy this afternoon. We'll see if this pops up again.

OK talked with Bose just a minute ago and they were able to correct the issue.

We disabled the power cord from the back of the media console (where the HDMI cables connect) and left it off for a minute or two.

Powered the media console back on and it is working as expected.

Was told by the Bose tech that the common reason for this issue is due to the use of the HDMI cables that have a propritary security protocol that is used between the media console and the component it is attached to (ie TV, Cable/Sat, BluRay ...ect).

I asked if there was a BIOS upgrade if it was indeed a "handshaking" issue and was told there was not one (yet).

If one becomes available, it will be shipped via mail on a CD\DVD that can be used in a CD\DVD player that is connected to the media console using the HDMI cable.

Hope this helps!

First - if you get a 'Error 180 Call Bose' issue come up on the display, and your picture is not showing up on the TV, make sure that the power supply box is switched to '120V' - mine was set to '230V' when I received it, and this took a couple of calls to finally identify as the problem. It causes the video processor to work at the wrong cycle speed. If this still does not fix the problem then you probably have an issue with the HDMI handshake to the Bose system. The software update (next step) might fix it, but in the meantime you can switch to Component cables for the cable to Bose connection. Second - when the system is turned off, press and hold the center button on the display. When 'House Code' comes up, start pressing the ON/OFF button until the 'CONSOLE SOFTWARE' screen comes up - if it shows 2.02.02, then you need to call Bose and have them ship you a software update. NOTE: the software update must be run from a DVD player that has digital optical connections to the Bose system (HDMI works as well).

Called Bose and talked to representative. He was extremely helpful. All in all the unplugging of the unit was a quick fix, but he is sending me new software updates. That is the major culprit so I think to permanently fix this issue you need to get the software update! I ended up needing an update for the "handshake" issue and also an update for the software in general.

Follow up: After the software upgrades the issue didn't not occur again for quite some time. It then cropped up again and I would continuously unplug the unit and plug it back in. Well I got sick of this and decided to call Bose again. Long story short I ended up having to ship the unit to them. They sure were nice and even paid for the shipping!! The frustrating part is that I was never told what the issue was. You get the unit back with a general list of "diagnostic" checks. Customer service is terrible, and to me it seems as if this product IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!
For the money I paid for this "top of the line" system, I think it's ridiculous all the problems I have experienced. There isn't anythign special about it other than the "Bose" name. If i could do it all over again, I would have bought a system with the same capabilities for more than HALF the price!!

NutAddy: Guys, reset all connections and plug all of them back in after a couple mins. It works like a charm!!

Its not a rocket-science so take it easy!

  • Brendan Mar 13, 2011

@NutAddy: I did that the first few times it happened. But my question to you is: How many times?? How many times should I reset all the connections before feeling as if there is something wrong here? Before having the feeling, and rightfully so, that this shouldn't be happening for such an expensive part of an entertainment system?

If your into paying over $1,000 for something that requires you to perform such actions than kudos to you, money is no object.

To me, it's not rocket science to see that what you get with this is the Bose name an thats pretty much it. People need to know that they can get something else that does just as good of a job for 1/2 the price!!

Just simply turn power strip off that was used to power on the Bose control panel. Waited 5 minutes, turned back on and it was ok.
This was the first time it happened since having the system for 8 months.

SOURCE: Bose Lifestyle V20 Error 180

Below is solution from an earlier post, I'm trying it out now as I have the same issue, system bought in Jan 09. I have received and installed the latest update from Bose recently, now this. Will call Bose tomorrow to fix if they can't they will be getting it back.

This means that there is a short detected on one of the amp outputs. Try disconnecting the speakers from the back of the unit and power on. If fault still persists then likely you have a bad output ic or FET (transistor). If fault goes away after removing speakers then plug them in one by one to see which is the culprit.

Make sure that the unit is fully charged by a micro USB the light on it will be red until it's fully charged put phone in search mode and press the center button until the light flashes red and blue after the phone finds it you should have an option to auto pair when it's not in use it will turn off when paired and working pressing either track button will start the music player then just play with the buttons and see what it does you can stop anything from the phone controls

My right ear bud cuts out every time I move my head. I've only had this pair about six months.

It shows that there is a loose connection.

Take the item back to place of purchase and get a replacement. It should be under warranty.

Take care!

BOSe Wave Radio - Disk "not readable"

I had the same problem with the disk unreadable error and took my unit to a authorized repair dealer about 100 miles from where I live to have it fixed. It ended up costing me about $300 to have the CD unit totally replaced which is almost as much as I paid for the unit in the first place. I am like a lot of you that used the CD very little although the unit was about 3 years old. I think Bose has a problem and would like us to think it is very rare. I bought a Lifestyle surround system about 14 years ago that has a CD and have never had a problem with it so needless to say I am very disappointed in the Wave II Radio/CD system. I am fairly certain the problem will occur again, but only time will tell.
