I think I have the same problem, I can't seem to successfully charge it, and even after it being kept on charge for several hours it continues to say "low battey" and then immediately turn off. Help please!

Hi, SORRY for the rating i give you. In answer to you questions - The camera was off whilst it was charging. I have not reset camera to manufacturers default settings and it still shows the adaptor icon after camera has been charged.

  • tinatilley21 Feb 26, 2009

Ok, I have reset the camera to default settings, turned it off and removed the rechargeable lithium-ion battery, left it for over an hour, then replaced the battery, turned it on but still displays the ac adaptor icon instead of the battery status icon. I know it is not a major problem but i just dont know how much battery power i have left if its not displayed.

I would replace the batteries your trying to charge. The old batteries may be bad.

Hmmm. Not sure if I deserved an Inappropriate rating for my answer. I'm still willing to take a shot at it. Here are a few questions for you.

Was the camera powered off or on whle it was charging?
Did you reset the camera to manufacturers default settings?
When you power the camera off and back on, does it still show you the adapter icon?

I would reset the camera to the default settings, turn the camera off and remove the batteries. Let it sit for an hour, then put fresh batteries back in and turn it on.

Let me know how that works. If you want, I will stay with you until we get it fixed.

    Ok Tina, try this.

Take a cotton swab and dip it in some isopropyl alcohol. Make sure it's at least 90 percent or better alcohol. Then, gently swab the contacts (inside the battery compartment were the battery connects) and when it dries, close it up and try it again. Let me know how it goes.

My lcd screen is blank as soon as i turn it on and it want do anything

I can't find manual, but I try to help you anyway.
On lots of digital cameras there is a power safe function. If you put the camera in power safe, the display will not go on. Sometimes it is just the display button on the back of the camera. A little button with an arrow to the right.
Please check in the menu's.
Then there is this nasty thing called battery. The battery (Batteries) can come fresh from the charger, that indicated the battery is charged and still the battery does not have enough power to let the camera work. Try charging the battery again and if you have a spare use that one. Even if you don't use the camera, make it a habit to take out the batteries and charge them at least 2 but better 4 times a year. Off course always charge the battery short before you use the camera.

We have never been able to charge our VPC-T700. We bought it new and haven't been able to use it after the batteries died. How do you charge it?

The AC power adapter may charge the battery. Make sure that the poser of the camera is off and then insert the battery before starting.
1. Connect one end of the adapter converter to the end of the AC power adapter. Make sure camera is off.
2. Insert the other end of the adapter converter to the PC/AV terminal on the camera.
3. Insert the other end of the AC power adapter into a wall outlet. The status LED lights green when charging is started and lights off when charging is completed. It lights red when a charging error has occurred.

Wrong battery charger in box

Radio Shack   I have a Xacti HD2000 and it shipped with a Sanyo VAR-G9 adaptor.  The RadioShack replacement is a P/N 273-1696.
There is a switch that must be set to +5V on the unit, and you need to match the assorted tips that come with the unit to the one you need for your camera.  On my HD2000, the "+" side is on the tip, but this is on an image on the back of the AC adaptor
Look for a diagram on the back of the adaptor you have. There will be two diamond boxes  one on the left with a '-' and one on the right with a "+"   and the diamonds will be connected to semi circles. The inside semicircle is the "Tip".
In my case (Sanyo Xacti HD2000)the "+" is connected to the dot in the center, so I have to align the "+" symbol with the word "tip" on the end of the Radio Shack cable.
(If this gets plugged in backwards... you can fry the camera).
Hopefully someone at Radio Shack can help you set this up properly.  That way you don't have to mail-order and wait long.

My sanyo vpc-hd700 will not turn on because the red light will flash but the camera won't turn on.

Your AC adaptor has very likely failed.
Check the AC adaptor on your camera.  Mine failed this morning after only 2 days of ownership. (I just purchased an Xacti HD2000 camera 02/05/09)
The Bad P/N I had was a Sanyo VAR-G9.  Based on my very light use after two days, I expect these are totally trashy power adaptors and there are likely several hundred bad ones like it in the field  Thats just a wild guess on my part, but after only two days, a unit like this should not fail at all.
The camera said "Low Battery", then could not be charged, then only the red light would flash.
I confirmed with a Digital Volt Meter that there was no 5.0V coming out of the AC/DC converter.
Radio Shack sells (and I bought) a replacement 5.0V 2.0A capable power adaptor.   Take your unit in and they can help you.  Make sure that you don't have any little children that may play with the voltage switch on the replacement, as any voltage over 5.0V can damage your camera.
With the replacement unit, my camera charges fine.
