Question about Philips 60P8341 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Brightness Problem Ever since we recently received cable television through our local phone company, I have noticed that our television picture is brighter than normal, almost kind of glowing around sharp colors. I have adjusted the brightness level and color levels, but nothing I do seems to help. I have used our DVD player, and it does the same thing, so it makes me think it is a tv problem instead of a cable problem. Any suggesions of what might be going on?

Thank you for the solution, however, I am still a little confused. The complete picture has an overall brightness/glow to it. Colors seem to glow past their outlines and whites are pretty bright (is this called ghosting??). We have tried to adust the converge red and blue, but the crosses in those screes glow so much that I cannot align them even if I wanted to.

Does the solution still hold with this additional information? Thank you!

Actually, no one is allowed to smoke in our house, so I can rule that issue out. But, when they installed the new cable, the technician drilled into the wall to add two new phone jacks -- right behind the t.v. That may have caused the lens or tubes to have gotten dusty or dirty. Thank you for your help!

If it is a glow around the edges, it could be one of two problems. The Picture tubes could be getting soft or weak, or there is a bad capacitor in the screen drive circuit or in the sweep power supply. If you have a service manual and a multimeter, you should be able to locate a bad capacitor with an ESR type capacitor checker. If you do not have any knowledge on solid state repairs, please call in a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck.

Have you looked into the tubes to see if they are dirty or if the lens have dirt or dust on them? Also try to adjust each focus by rocking back and forth the focus control for the color that your looking into and see if the focus improves the look of the set. If you smoke or anybody smokes in your house this would explain alot.

My Panasonic 47 inch rear view projector is hdtv ready, what do I need to buy to recieve pictures in HD

You should be able to receive the HD signal from your cable company. If you are still receiving your signal over the air, then you can buy an HD tuner. I found mine at Best Buy for $179 a few years ago. It will come with component outputs which is the HD signal.

I'm using my 70's vintage antenna on my house to receive the 3 local channels in HD.

Good Luck,

Hdtv qam tuner

More often than not the problem is with the Cable co. They ALWAYS blame the tv. I have had many many problems with the signal quality coming from that co. Here is the most likley cause. The cable signal is probably very Weak. This can be caused by a weak signal coming from the cabls co. or a bad cable inside your home. The age of the cable can effect the signal quality.Note: The cable co is only required to provide a Digital signal. Some companies allow free HD signals and some charge for that signal. The correct approach to this issue is to get with the Cox and ask the if they provide free Hd channels without a box. If they say no then you will have to get a HD cable box to watch HD programs. Themn if they say yes then you need to ask them to send out a tech and test the signal coming from the Head End all the way to your set. If the signal flucuates then you will get inconsistant scanning results.

Try to re-program your tuner (search for channels). There are a lot of changes going on with service providers.
I am a servicer, and I have had to reprogram many sets because the local cable company just recently switched there services from analog (NTSC) to digital (ATSC).
Your problem might possibly be an internal problem, but most likely related to the aforementioned.
Having said that, there's always a possibility that a problem exists with your service providerw
If the above, reprogramming channels, doesn't work, then call your local cable or sattelite service provider. If that doesn't work, next person to call is your repair tech. Especially if it is under warranty.

Picture problem

I have an older Mitsibutishi 52" HD 1080. I recently upgraded my cable box to DirecTV HDTV. When I change to format to view in 1080 the TV goes from full screen to what seems to be wide screen with a black bar on the top and bottom. If I change the format to 480p I get a full screen; but the picture has a "redish tint" over it as if looking through sunglasses...I tried everything in my TV manual even call the cable company. Any suggestions?

One T.V. snowy on Sat., clear on local channels, others are fine?

if you recently got dishnetwork call the company that installed the system for a repair person, they HAVE to fix it. if you put it in yourself it sounds like the lnb is bad or the dishnetwork splitter is bad or not hooked up right. this kind of problem is a reminder that paying an extra $5 a month for service warranty is a good deal. if something is wrong with anything then, a phone call to dishnetwork will get new equipment sent to you or a service tech sent to fix it. i don't presently work for dish or direct or a cable co but i know that's how things work.

I assume this problem was resolved. If not, please contact me and I will walk you through the solution. It always helps to know the provider name. Most cell phones are only as good as the towers they connect to. If your phone is not connecting to the local towers correctly you need to contact your service company for a tower update code.
Please let me know if I can help further.
