Question about Philips 60P8341 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Brightness Problem Ever since we recently received cable television through our local phone company, I have noticed that our television picture is brighter than normal, almost kind of glowing around sharp colors. I have adjusted the brightness level and color levels, but nothing I do seems to help. I have used our DVD player, and it does the same thing, so it makes me think it is a tv problem instead of a cable problem. Any suggesions of what might be going on?

Re: Brightness Problem

If it is a glow around the edges, it could be one of two problems. The Picture tubes could be getting soft or weak, or there is a bad capacitor in the screen drive circuit or in the sweep power supply. If you have a service manual and a multimeter, you should be able to locate a bad capacitor with an ESR type capacitor checker. If you do not have any knowledge on solid state repairs, please call in a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck.

My Panasonic 47 inch rear view projector is hdtv ready, what do I need to buy to recieve pictures in HD

You should be able to receive the HD signal from your cable company. If you are still receiving your signal over the air, then you can buy an HD tuner. I found mine at Best Buy for $179 a few years ago. It will come with component outputs which is the HD signal.

I'm using my 70's vintage antenna on my house to receive the 3 local channels in HD.

Good Luck,

Are you saying that this happens only when you are using the RF input? Is it not happening when you use the video input from the satellite receiver? Try a DVD player on the input of the video where you now have the Satellite receiver connected. Let me know exactly what you mean as i need a little more information so I can assist you.

Picture problem

I have an older Mitsibutishi 52" HD 1080. I recently upgraded my cable box to DirecTV HDTV. When I change to format to view in 1080 the TV goes from full screen to what seems to be wide screen with a black bar on the top and bottom. If I change the format to 480p I get a full screen; but the picture has a "redish tint" over it as if looking through sunglasses...I tried everything in my TV manual even call the cable company. Any suggestions?

I recently install a cable line for my lxi tv and installed a vcr/dvd player. Now, I have no picture or a few channels are snowy. I do not have a remote and must use the hard buttons. I did notice that...

Hi Chara77,

There maybe a couple issues that could be causing your problems.

a) Check your cable lines to make sure there are no cable breaks, or loose connectors. Tightening down connectors will sometimes assist with that as well.

b) Depending on how you change the channels there maybe an issue with the television not receiving the full signal from the vcr/dvd player and you may need to change channels only from it.

P.S. SAP stands or "Second Audio Programing" it usually allows secondary audio tracks such as bilingual programing. It should not affect your picture.
