First of all on your computers motherboard,you have two connectors, one is called "IDE1 and IDE2",your hard drive plugs into IDE1,and your CD-Rom plugs into IDE2, on some older motherboards your hard drive will plug into the older models, IDE0, and your CD-Rom will plug into IDE1, the lowest IDE# is the primary boot up connector,Remember that!,now once you do that,have a look at the back of you CD-Rom and Hard Drive,you will see tiny symbols on them,one will say "primary" or PY,anther will say "cabel select" or CS,and the last will say "slave" or SE, or SL,which ever,some harddrives have a little drawing on them that will show you how to set them to primary or slave,set both of them to Primary,OK!,connect your IDE1 to you hardrive,and connect your IDE2 to your CD-rom or dvd drive,if you have two drives using one cable,one has to be set to primary,while the other is set to slave,or your computer wont boot,that is important!!Put your Window's CD into CD-Rom drive on IDE2 ,in your BIOS,deactivate your hardrive on IDE1,it will tell you the model name of your hard drive,deactivate it so it wont boot from that drive(since it does not have an operating system on it yet!,its not going to boot),now save and exit,and it will reboot,now when the computer starts it will say some thing like"cant find drive to boot from,boot from cd-rom?" press y to say "yes",or n to say "no",on some systems it will say "cant find drive,press any key to booy from CD-Rom" in which case you just push any button,and your computer will begin booting from the Cd-Rom,since you deactivated your Hardrive,the widows installation program will find it,and ask you to install the operating system on it,it will ask you to partition the drive using fat32,or NTFS, use NTFS,its better!!,and then it will begin installing after windows after that.its that easy.then update your system,on windows update.

    i have 2 hdd on ata 1 master 2 slave and 1 dvd-writer...

    In your case go into your BIOS and deactivate the two Hard drive's and "save and exit",make sure your Dvd is set to Master on the back of the DRIVE,Reboot,and put your windows CD into your DVD writer,and that that should be that.it will ask you to boot from that drive,and just press any key and follow the steps.

Will not run xp pro i'm stuck in 2000 mode mother board is ak77 pro 133 vt8233 will not run xp pro i've been told im pretty much sol. Is this true?

If you have a valid Win XP Pro CD and want to install the operating system you'll need to format your hard disk drive. If you have allot of data on you're hard disk drive, (In Win 2000) Suggest you create a second partition within the free space of you're hdd and install windows XP Pro. Boot you're system with the XP CD. Pay close attention to the display screens. Follow the instructions for creating a second partition.
Format the new partition. (Quick). Install windows XP on the new partition. Once completed you can copy your personal data to win XP.
If you choose to keep the win 2000 partition and you do not wish to have a dual boot system than remove/delete the root files from the 2000 partition. These files; Autoexec.bat and Boot.ini. You're new XP Boot.ini should read like this;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
Once you're satisfied an no longer need win 2000 use windows diskmgmt.msc from the run command to delete the win 2000 partition.
Win 2000 uses a FAT16 where Win XP uses the FAT NTFS.

Cheers!

I cannot boot windows xp

Hi praph_wicked, normal order would be, floppy drive first, CDROM second & Primary hard disk drive third.
How ever if your bios does not comply you can always press the F8 key every two seconds & that should bring up (Please select boot device). Which will look like this;

54d9788.jpg
Choose the CDROM drive with the windows CD in it.
If you have just one CDROM drive, make sure the jumper on the back side of the CDROM is set to "Master". If you have two CDROM drives connected, set one as master & the other to slave.
If using an IDE cable for the two CDROM drives. The CDROM at the end of the data connector is to be set as master, the 2nd CDROM connects to the next IDE connector & Its jumper is set to slave.

Good luck!

Problem ide

Hi gustabir,
try this first. (If I am understanding you correctly).
Power on the PC, press the Delete key every two seconds untill the boot menu loads. Go to the title, Boot. Set you're boot device's in the correct order. They should be listed as follows.
1st Boot device Floppy drive. (If a floppy drive is connected).
2nd Boot device CD-ROM/DVD drive.
3rd Boot device Hard drive.
(If you're CD-ROM drive is not listed in the bios main menu, than you're CD-ROM drive is not connected correctly). Please check the CD-ROM data cable is firmly & correctly connected), also check the power cable is firmly connected). If you are using more than one CD/DVD-ROM drive on the same data cable, check that you are listing the correct CD/DVD drive in the boot order. To change the drive's order while in the Boot menu, see page 34 in you're manual.
If the above does not address you're problem, please describe the issue/problem again.

If I can help you further, feel free to post.
Suggestions & comments welcomed.
