Usually this means that there is no audio driver. Go to your control panel and open it. than click on sound and audio devices. one the window opens it will say either no audio devices found or it will tell you the what the sound card is. If it does not tell you than you will need to download the driver for your sound card again. If you need any further help with this please let me know. I can get you your sound card driver if you can let me know what the make and model number is of the sound card.

make sure the card is plugged in properly...also make sure you have installed the latest service pack for xp64 bit...because it requires the latest service pack to be installed on the system, only then the sound card will get detected...

for xp 32 bit edition... at least sp2 with Microsoft UAA driver update for sound card must be installed in your computer...

E-MU 1616. Problem installing drivers

"I am running windows XP proffessional 5.1 on a HP (compaq) dc7600.
Could this be the problem?"

It could be. Bring up your system properties box (Windows key + Pause/Break key). Is that the version shown at the top right on the GENERAL tab?

Is there some reason you have not installed service pack 2 or 3? Of course if you're running an illegal copy of Windows you can't, but I mean any legitimate reason? If we can eliminate the problem with installing the latest service packs we can move forward.

After installing MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2, it has not found it,s sound drivers and the vga drivers.

Hi there.

You can install the drivers yourself by downloading them from the manufacturer's website. If you can tell me what your sound card is and what motherboard you have, or VGA card (if seperate), I can post the links for you. Also, have you tried installing XP Service Pack 3?

jeraku try to open your device manager...to check if you properly installed your driver for your soundcard. you can open this by goto start menu>settings>control pane>system>hardware>device manager> sound, video and game controllers; if you can see a ? question mark- means driver not properly installed.. try to update again or download your driver for your soundcard.. you can download a list of driver through this link. www.driverguide.com. if your soundcard is onboard, just try to find driver to your board. hope this could help.. thanks... Just pm me if you have update.. thanks.
