The problem is the lift-gate ajar/courtesy light switch that is located on the left and right latch assemble of the lift gate, they stick and cause this concern, there are numerous technical service bulletins from Ford about this, have replaced at least 100. PS, washing the engine had nothing to do with it, u can try using spray lube on the latch's and open and close the gate repeatably to see if the switch un-sticks.

2007 escalade 2 front doors wont trigger dome light but rear 2 doors do? Also killing battery on vehicle, I suspect maybe radio stays on due to vehicle not knowing driver left vehicle.

Door ajar switches maybe bad . Take the door panel off ,find a wiring diagram an test the circuit . Or you could check at the BCM ,would still need wiring diagram so you know what wire is what . Do you know how to test electrical circuits using a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Could also take it to a qualified repair shop an have the BCM checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .
The BCM, the door switches, and the liftgate module (LGM) (if equipped with power liftgate) communicate through the GMLAN serial data circuit for the lamp illumination commands of the doors, liftgate, and liftglass open/ajar switch signals. The LGM receives a ground signal from the pawl switch, ratchet switch, and liftglass ajar switch that are located within the liftgate latch and liftglass latch. For all vehicles, the left and right rear door latch switches are both on one circuit that is also an input to the BCM.
If the vehicle has a manual liftgate, there is an input circuit from the liftgate latch switch and liftglass latch switch directly to the BCM.
The left and right front door courtesy lamps receive voltage and ground from the driver door switch and the passenger door switch respectively. The remaining courtesy lamps are controlled and receive voltage through the BCM from the CTSY fuse in the instrument panel fuse block.

Can't get dome lights on when door is opener even with override switch off?

The following lamps may be manually turned ON by placing the interior lamp switch in the ON position, or by opening a door while the switch is in the AUTO position.
?€¢
The dome lamp

?€¢
The liftgate lamps

?€¢
Courtesy/map lights

The courtesy lamp supply voltage circuit of the body control module (BCM) supplies battery positive voltage to the dome lamp, the liftgate lamps, and the map lamps. When any door is opened, the door jamb switch contacts close providing a door open input to the BCM. The BCM then provides a ground to the interior lamps with the switch in the AUTO position. The interior lamps receive a ground at G401 with the switch in the ON position.
Important: If the liftgate is opened after all the modules go to sleep, the dome light will not come on. The liftgate ajar switch input to the BCM will not wake up the BCM once it has gone to sleep, so the dome light will not come on. Once the BCM gets an input to wake it up, from remote keyless entry (RKE) or a door handle, the dome light will turn on when the liftgate is opened.
If the driver inadvertently leaves any interior lamp ON, the BCM will turn it OFF after a 20 minute time-out.
The courtesy lamps will turn OFF immediately if the ignition switch is turned to the ON position or approximately 20 seconds after all doors are closed.
The courtesy lamps are controlled by the body control module (BCM). Inputs from the dome lamp switch and the door ajar switches are monitored by the BCM. When a door ajar switch is closed, or the dome lamp switch is turned to the ON position, the BCM supplies the B+ for the courtesy lamps.
With out a factory Tech2 scan tool or equivalent an knowing how these systems work ,you best bet is to take your vehicle to the dealer or some other ASE certified repair shop !

Interior lights blink off and on, does not stop

Interior lights blink off and on ????? As in dome lamps, dash light's etc...??? An what the heck is this mean We were told to hinge the module?????? I have been an automotive technician over 30 yr's an never heard the term hinge the module. The interior lighting on your vehicle is controlled by the smart junction box , ford's BCM body control module . ( Electronic's ) Who checked the vehicle ? Dealer ?
Interior Lighting The interior lighting system consists of the following:
  • Smart junction box (SJB)
  • Interior/map lamp assembly
  • Rail lamps (if equipped)
  • Glove compartment lamp assembly
  • Dimmer switch
  • Illuminated vanity mirrors (if equipped)
  • Rear cargo lamp
  • Puddle lamps (if equipped)
  • Door ajar switches
  • Liftgate glass ajar switch
The interior lighting system consists of 2 subsystems:
  • Courtesy lamps
  • Demand lamps
The courtesy lamps are controlled by the SJB. The courtesy lamp subsystem consists of the ajar switches, the interior dome lamps, the puddle lamps, the roof rail lamps, the cargo lamp, and the overhead console lamps (if equipped). The SJB supplies voltage to the courtesy lamps when the SJB receives the required input.
The demand lamps subsystem consists of the glove compartment lamp, the dimmer switch, the cargo lamp, all map/reading lamps, the roof rail lamps, and the LH and RH vanity mirror lamps.
The SJB supplies power to the interior lighting system. The SJB sets DTCs if certain circuit failures exist with the interior lighting system.

  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  1. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool release software. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  1. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
    • Check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • Check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
    • Refer to Section 418-00 , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.

2001 Sequoia, door ajar light goes off, but dome light stays on. Door ajar light comes on with slight pressure against closed door. Can replacing the door jam switch solve this problem? Why would the door...

To temporarily solve the light problem, I taped a washer to the inside of the door where the door hits the plunger on the light switch. A permanent solution would be to drill a hole in the door at this spot and put a self taping screw in that will trigger the switch sooner. I figured out the reason the dome light stayed on is due to the courtesy light timer and the lights would have eventually gone off.

Liftgate ajar light on when liftgate is closed when driving interior light are on. I open and close liftgate, but no such luck liftgate ajar light on and all interior lights when driving

I recently had a similar problem with the "liftgate ajar" light lighting randomly on my 2001 PT Cruiser. It was even occurring AFTER I had disconnected the "ajar sensor" on the liftgate. Finally found that 5 wires were broken, one of them the liftgate ajar sensor wire, in the wire bundle that leaves the top of the liftgate and goes into the chassis. I suspect that those broken wires would randomly trigger. Inline spliced the wires and resealed the bundle. Everything looks good for now, although time will tell.

1997 Tarus dome light and floor lights will not go out.

This is usually caused by the switches sticking in the door latches. Try spraying some WD40 in the latches and open and close the doors a bunch of times that should take care of it.

Waning lights

You have a courtesy light switch that is malfunctioning, it can be in any of the four doors or the rear hatch, the only way to pinpoint it is to have the dealer hook it up to a scan toot and they can pin point the bad switch that is causing the lights to stay on. The switches are very cheap they are attached to the door latch on the inside of the door.
