This seems to be correct. I pushed R4ds the card further in and it was recognised. However this can't be a permenet solution. Any idea how to over come this problem permenantly.

It is possible, can be the following:
The card slots from recent nintendo's have been adjusted to avoid the use of r4ds. If your nintendo is newer you can try to put a small pice of carton behind the r4ds card in order to push it well against the contacts.

I have three DS Nintendos and all three have a RD4S. One of them had exactly the same problem after a few months. The adapter that holds the Micro SD card shows bad connectivity after frequent plugging and unplugging. I returned the Adapter (RD4S) and got a new one. That was a newer version and since then (over 8 months now) it still runs great.

R4 for nintendo ds lite does not work

Make sure that you have the latest firmware installed in your R4 micro SD card. You can get the latest firmware here:
http://en.r4ds.me/kernel/English-1.18.rar

After downloading, extract the .rar file. Copy "_DS_MENU.DAT" and "_DS_MSHL.NDS" to the root directory of your micro SD (ex: E:\ or F:\),
To play games, simply copy the games you have downlaoded to the root directory also.

Nothing sees my R4DS card!

Yes,

First you need to make sure you format your Micro-SD card in Windows to FAT32 format. Then load the latest software files onto your micro-sd card. You can get these from http://www.r4ds.cn/download/r4ds.html

Then in the root directory of the MicroSD card, make a folder called "Games" (without the ""s) and place your .nds backup files/ROMs in the Games folder.

What files/folders (besides games) should be on the Micro SD?

check the card itself, look for a website listed on the card and download the fw from there. if your card doesn't have a site try multiple vendors of the r4ds card. its a tedious process but all of them are different even though it may seem that every r4ds is the same.
if all else fails buy a new one.
dragonds.com is a great site.

R4 Problem loading error

Get this file extract the file with winrar, and copy the files to the DS card. The file structure should have is:
Files
  • _DS_MENU.DAT
  • _DS_MSHL.NDS
Folders
  • _system_
  • moonshl
You should now put your .nds files onto the root of the card also, and hopefully all should work OK for you

I bought a Micro SD Card and an R4-III Upgrade SDHC. But I can't get it to work!!! What files/folers do I actually need for my Nintendo DS Lite?

Go to www.r4ds.com download & unzip the kernel. This will create a folder with the operating system.Copy these files to the root of the SD card (There should be 2 files & 2 folders) After this, copy the .nds files also onto the root of the SD card, and the games should be visible & playable when you turn on the DS
NOTE: this will not work for the Nintendo DSi
