Describe the past - How did it fail? One day or acting up for a while? Could be a weak power supply - a bad capacitor on a power supply too. Look for popped up capacitor top inside.

First, try the unplug it, wait a few minutes, plug it in trick, several
times. If that doesn't work try pressing the power button and slap the
back left side of the set several times. Sometimes, this will shock the
ballast and/or lamp into working.
Try checking the wires as well if its pinch or not and try to take out all cables from other devices from the back

I have one of these units, if the light is blinking and no picture as you have stated then you will need to replace the bulb in the unit. it is contained in the front of the unit behind the front panel on the right, you would remove the front panel after unplugging the unit, remove the single screw and pull out the box. replace it and then reverse the proces. the bulbs can be obtained for about $130.00 to $200.00 depending on where you get it from. Shop around.

This is an old post but maybe it will help others. You will have to take the back off of the TV. On the bottom you will see ribbon cables coming from the screen and connecting to 3 PC boards. Take the screws out that holds the cable down. Underneath you will see 4 resistors marked 100. All you have to do is re-solder the resistors and your vertical line will be gone. You need to be good at soldering or you could damage the ribbon. The only ones that you have to re-solder is the ones in line with the lines on the screen.

My Hitachi HDR253 Digital TV Recorder worked on the first day, froze on the second. Would not obey the remote or any buttons on the facia. Had to switch the power off to restart it - but lost all the timer info. It worked on the third day. This is the fourth day. I was scrolling through the TV guide and suddenly it froze again. I am taking it back on Monday but is this just a bad machine or are all Hitachi prone to this problem?
