I trouble shot the problem to empty the drum and the thing started smoking. I unplugged the unit and called service. My husband bought it at Best Buy and thank goodness it's still under warranty. I'll post what repairs were done. Thanks for all the help.

The smoke was mostly from the front..white smoke streaming out..alittle from the back too. The fumes made me cough. I unplugged it and called service. I was almost ready to get the fire extinguisher.

Sounds like you need to replace the HALL sensor.
(On a scale of 1 - 10 in difficulty, I'd rate this repair a 3.5) It is part number 6501KW2002A and is covered by a seven year part warranty (motor and sensor covered). (warranty may not apply to products purchased at Sears, but part is not all that expensive anyway) No labor coverage after the first year, but it is rather easy to replace.
Unplug machine. Remove back cover (4 screws). Take off nut in the center and remove the rotor, which is just a metal "can" with permanent magnets on the inside. Remove grounding wire and wire clamp. Remove bolts with 10 MM wrench allowing you to take off the electric coil thing. Unplug the sensor, un-clip it from the electric coil thing, and replace.
The new HALL sensor has heavier components to help prevent a re-occurrence of the problem.

Wow! Have never seen one that smoked yet. Let me know how this turns out. Was the smoke from the control area, or the (back) motor area?

Again, the motor has a seven year (factory) part warranty, the control has a two year (factory) warranty, and one year labor + all parts (factory) on everything. Even if you were past factory labor coverage, the repairs for these items are not all that difficult. Sounds like you will be able to get this washer Fix-Ya 'ed!

Lg front loading washer flasing LE and stops midcycle

In new installations, this error can sometimes present because of a miscommunication between the control panel and the wash motor. In this instance, the washer simply needs to be reset.

Step 1: Unplug the washing machine.

Step 2: While the washer remains unplugged, press and hold the [Start/Pause] button on the front panel for 5 seconds.

Step 3: Plug the unit back in, and run a rinse and spin cycle to test if the LE code is cleared.

OVER SUDDSING

GETTING AN ERROR CODE - LE ON MY WM2277HW

A common reason for an LE code is choosing a high spin speed on a bulky/ very heavy load. Try a cycle with a lower spin speed. If you still get the LE code, especially if it does not even do the wash tumbling, then replace the Hall sensor on the motor.

What does LE mean?

Over-sudsing is the main cause of LE error codes. Using non-HE (high efficiency) detergents or too much detergent will cause stress on the motor. In addition, detergent residue can also cause leaking and odor. Follow these steps to resolved an LE error code caused by over-sudsing.
Step 1: Unplug the washer and allow the unit to sit for 30 minutes to give the suds time to dissolve.
Step 2: Plug the washer back in and press [Power] to turn on the washer.
Step 3: Do not choose a washing cycle. Press the [Spin Speed] key until "No Spin" is selected.
Step 4: Press [Start/Pause] to begin a drain only cycle.
Step 5: After the drain only cycle has completed, remove the clothing items from the machine. Turn the power back on and select [Rinse and Spin] and then press [Start/Pause]. This will remove excess soap suds and light residue from the drum. Repeat this step until no visible suds are in the drum of the washer.

WHEN THE WASHER IS TRYING TO GET STARTED TO WASH I GET AN ERROR CODE OF LE

Hi,

LE stands for locked motor error..
1 . check the connections to the Coil/Stator at the rear of the unit possible broken wire.
2 . Coil/Stator Assembly is defective hence no drive

Thank you !!

Drum wont rotate

Code LE is a locked motor Error and it is caused by:

• The connector (3-pin, male, white) in the MOTOR
HARNESS is not connected to the connector
(3-pin, female, white) of STATOR ASSEMBLY.
• The electric contact between the connectors
(3-pin, male, white) in the MOTOR HARNESS
and 4-pin, female, white connector in the MAIN PWB
ASSEMBLY is bad or unstable.
• The MOTOR HARNESS between the STATOR
ASSEMBLY and MAIN PWB ASSEMBLY is cut (open
circuited).
• The hall sensor is out of order/defective.

If you need a service manual for that you can find on Here.

LE unfortunately is the fault code for a faulty Hall sensor or faulty Motor. The Hall sensor is attached to the motor. If you have or can borrow an electrical test meter the I can guide you throe the testing.80% of the time it is the Hall sensor.Hope this helps please reply for further help.
