Canon starwriter 400 won't print

Hi we have just obtained a canon starwriter 400. Unfortunately although the display is working and you are able to type stuff and see it, it will not print the words onto a piece of paper. Could it be that the ink cartridge is empty? We are in the UK.

Usually the problem is a plugged cartridge.
It is possible the ink cartridge is empty.
It would be best to buy another cartridge and try that first.

Yes, also check to see on the ribbon if there is any imprint or letter that you type. If not either print hammer not striking hard enought or ribbon not feeding. If there is an inprint most likely ribbon dried out, for sure if a fabric ribbon....

I have a Canon StarWriter 30 that I bought ~1995. I rarely use it, and have kept it in mint condition. I just tried to type something, and found that it's not printing the full characters; it's cutting...

Check that the hammer is striking the letters squarely, that the daisy wheel is firmly located in its holder , Check too that the patten has not moved up in its location. Check that the ribbon can still transfer a deposit across its entire width. (Look back at a used part of the ribbon to see the strike pattern).
