The above message suddenly appeared on the camera screen of my 2 year old Olympus mju 700 digital camera. I can still view pictures previously taken but I'm no longer able to take pictures as the message seems to block the camera?

Re: write protect message appears on screen
Sounds as if the memory card may be corrupted. In order to remove the write protect, make sure you have downloaded and saved all of the images from the memory card to your computer and then having the card in the camera you will need to run the format option and this will permanently remove the write protect as well as all of the images from the card.
The card should be able to be used again after the write protect is removed.
I saved all my pictures then re-formatted the camera (which would have cancelled all saved pictures) simply by going into the menu, choosing setup, then format. This also got rid of the "write protect" message which previously blocked the camera. The camera seems to be now working perfectly

The error message (D: 5f08 5e02) means that your lens is dying / dead. It just happened to mine (on the Mju 700, but it's the same thing) and I was told that it could be repaired, but it would cost as much as a new camera. I've only had mine 2 years and I've been really careful with it, so I'm a bit annoyed, but I have used it a lot!
hi , i had the exact same problem as well. See my other reply to another user in this forum. I still had my 2 year guarantee ( European ), and sent it back to Olympus. They have told me that the zoom mechanism is broken ( which i figured anyhow !) , and they are replacing. As i said above, i am lucky that i was within the 2 year warranty. If yours is still within the guarantee period then contact Olympus service. If not, then i'm afraid you may have to pay. Best of luck.
Sometimes the card can get a little bit of dirt on it which has caused this error message to appear on my camera. Just take the card out and carefully wipe the metal contacts at the bottom with mentholated sprits or another cleaner. This did the trick for me.
It could be a card problem in which case I would see if the same message comes up when a different card is placed in.
hope this helps
