Same problem of my Kitchenaid dishwasher. The model number is
KUDI01FLSS6. I can see the cable(rope) is broken. Where can I get the part if I want to try to fix it myself.
By the way, my wife said that nobody will fix it anymore. Either you buy a new dishwasher or leave it alone. Is that true? Thanks.

Either a spring or a door cable. On newer Kitchenaids and Whirlpools, it is usually a "cable" made of rope and plastic that breaks, not the spring itself. Get me the complete model number and I will look it up for you...

Dor hinge repair

I fixed my Fagor disgwasher spring last night. The symptom was a bang and the door got heavy. Investigation revealed a broken cord. The parts are available at around 20 UK pounds per pair. They consist of a cord with plastic mouldings at each end. A heavy duty spring sits inside the washer parallel to the door bottom and is streched as the door is opened. I would not recommend buying the spares as getting them off the spring is almost impossible. I had a vice with tools and gave up. Instead I bought some similar cord (try a ships chandler/dinghy shop), one metre should do (99p). Remove the spring and cut the cord off at the moulding. Put the spring in a vice and drill out the cord. Start small (2mm) and work up. Put the new cord through the hole. Bend the spring and use a small screwdriver to fish out the cord. Tie a knot in it. Take a large flatblade screwdriver and open up the coils so the knot will pass through. Drill the other plastic moulding and repeat. The cord length between the mouldings was 280mm but measure the unbroken one. The dishwasher I had a cover clipped in place at the bottom of the door. Lever this forward and the spring is easy to remove.

Candy 650 dishwasher.....opened door and loud cracking sound, door now very heavy. Think door spring snapped, how do i get to it and where do i get spares from?

The door springs are attached to the bottom of each side of the door. You have to pull the dishwasher out far enough to see the area or all the way out if you have sides on yours. It hooks on the door and another hook on the washer frame.
Post your model number HERE to find a diagram and parts.

I have an Indesit DV62WHUK dishwasher and the last night the door made a banging sound when it was opened and now it won't close and will fall back under it's own weight. I suspect either a spring, spring...

There is a plastic unit behind the door handle which houses a spring under tension. This latches the door closed and makes the electrical connection to allow the machine to work properly. You need to buy a new unit (£15) which is a bit fiddly to reach but easy to fit (2 screws)

Dishwasher door drops hard when opened.

Sounds like one of the doors springs is broken or has come detached from the dishwasher housing frame. If you have a plain dishwasher door, ie one that does not have a wood panel matching your cabinets, and the spring(s) are broken, new springs cost about $20. If you have wood panel on the dishwasher door, then you may need heavy duty replacement spring at about $22.

I opened teh door and thought i felt something hit

Murray, It sounds like one of the door springs has broken and that is why the door seems heavier and opens with much more force.

You'll want to at least make a temporary repair and order a new replacment spring to get your dishwasher working like it should and so it's safer too.

You can check to see which side of the dishwasher the spring broke, by locking the door shut (with the cycle set to "off"). Now remove the lower access panel, beneath the main dishwasher door. There are a couple of screws near the top corner edges of the panel, just under the main door and a couple more on the toe kick near the very bottom.

Once you've got the lower access panel off, you'll be able to see the two door springs, (there is one on each side). Of course, the broken one might have fallen off the spring notches, so look around and you should see it.

With the door still closed and locked, you can remove the broken spring and see if it's just the hook end that broke. If that's the case, you can reform the end hook using a couple pairs of pliers and reinstall the spring on the door and frame mounting points. You'll have to use pliers to stretch the spring slightly to get it on the other mounting point, once you've got one end on a mounting point. If the spring broke off more than 3 coils, you'll need to replace it with a new one.

You can find a replacement by using searspartsdirect.com and putting in your model number to locate a line drawing and parts listing for your particular model. You can also order a new one from them, or use the part number to get one locally, if you wish.

Once you've got the spring back on the door and cabinet mount points, you can unlock the door and gently lower the door to see if everything is working properly. Once you've opened and closed the door several times, you can reinstall the lower access panel and you're back in business.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

The door counter weight seems to have dropped off. there was a loud crash, and now the door feels really heavy, and won't close properly. any ideas??

Hi alisonf,
It sounds like you may have had a spring either come loose or break. You can take the kick plate off the bottom usually with a 1/4 socket or nutdriver and maybe a phillips. Take the screw out of each side and you will see on the far left and right a spring that attaches to the door hinge. One of them will be broken or off. Simply look at the one that is still in place and attach the other back the same way. If broken you can usually buy springs for dishwashers for around $8.00. Good luck and I really hope this helps.
