Question about Samsung HT-Q70 Home Theater System System

1 Answer

Display lights are all up and it shuts down in 3-5 secs (HT-Q70)

Hi. My problem is this : one day when i was changing my clothes, i wanted to listen to radio(it was on Aux mode) so i pressed the Function button and just then there was a spark between my finger and the unit...this happens very often, but with other....metals. The display went crazy and in 3-5 secs, the unit slowly shut down, i heard a sound inside...like a clicking, going very fast and the Stand By light did the same.(flashing very fast) The only way to stop that was to unplug it. Now, when i plug it, theres notting wrong, but when i start it it does the same thing, and if i unplug it and plug it back in fast, like in the next 3 secs, the clicking starts. I have to wait like 3 mins to plug it in so that it stays silent..
I think that some fuse is burned, because i opened it and there was the smell of a burned fuse, but i have no idea wich one it is. I think its the big white thing, but a lot of yellow tape around it, but im not sure. I dont wanna go and buy something else, because this thing rocks. If anyone can help me, it would be greatly apreciated.

There is nothing you can do to fix that, unless you're a technician.
You probably have a partially burnt power supply. That is where the fuse but not busted. Could be blown capacitor which is common to china made SMPS power supply used widely on dvd players.

Have a technician repair it.

Good Luck

Everytime I turn my on samsung ht-q70 the display screen says protection and the system shuts off. what can i do to get the protection off

The amplifier has a bad channel, or is bad itself. It is trying to either output too much current or is not putting out enough. If you have multiple speakers wired to one channel, you will either have to change the wiring to series(unit positive to first speaker red, first red to second BLACK, second red to unit negative) or remove on speaker. (If this is the case, then you might want to look at this. It is a tip/rick to place and properly/successfully run three subwoofers, but the main concept can be used on all channels.) If all channels are wired to he correct speaker, then the amp is in fact at fault.

Turned on system. it shut off. tried to turn it on again the display screen lit up and went out now i get nothing.

If every segment on the display lit up it will need a display driver IC (pain in the a## to replace need to remove the display to get at it) and it will also need a transistor in the power supply.

How do i connect/play my turntable?

Hi sorry to say cant go direct.

What you can do if really want it running is get a RIAA pre amp with power supply (search google local shops). The turn table plugs into that, then that plugs into one of the analogue inputs of the Q70. That will work great if prepared for the effort!

Best of luck

I had the same problem. My piece died after the 12 month warranty. But, there was an additional 3-Month Warranty Extension if you Registered the piece On-Line. I had done that. The Samsung Service Center said they did not have access to be able confirm that I had registered it. I had the date registered but that didn't matter to them. They just wanted me to forward the Proof of Purchase info to them(which I Scanned & E-mailed). Once they confirmed this. I shipped them the Main Unit Only(not the Speakers), they repaired it, & returned it. The parts they replaced on my piece were: AH92-02494A(Display Malfunction), AH44-00112A(Dead Intermittently), AH64-03942B(Appearance Item Defect), & AH31-00039B(Mech. Noise or Vibration). It's been about 1 year since repair & so far works well.
When this piece failed I also smelled an electrical burning smell. It was very soon after I had touched the On/Off Button.
I BELIEVE THIS UNIT MUST BE GROUNDED, IT MAY BE VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO STATIC DISCHARGE AND GENERATES IT'S OWN STATIC FIELD AND DOESN'T NEED MUCH TO COMPLETE A CIRCUIT. GROUND IT(and yourself) AND ONLY USE A REMOTE CONTROL TO OPERATE THE UNIT. BE CAREFUL WHEN INSTALLING MEDIA TO ENJOY. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE. Can't say I won't use Samsung again because it's all garbage in, garbage out in this disposable society we've allowed ourselves to be a part of.
