Replace Fuser error will not go away

How do I get rid of the 'Replace Fuser' error on a Brother MFC-8870DW printer? Also, how do I get to the maintenance menu for this machine? the Menu, *, 2...codes did not work for me.

    The Issue:

I print by default in duplex mode. This has caused the printer to prematurely increase the count of the pages printed (basically has doubled it). Since I have printed over 100k pages (actually 50K pages), the printer is reporting "Replace Fuser" message.

    What I am looking for:

After reading multiple posts on many websites regarding Brother printers, i read about different sequences for entering a maintenance menu where one can reset the "Replace Fuser" message.

The problem is the sequence of keys varies by printer models. I have tried the sequences described for printer models within this family (line) of printers. My printer is MFC-8870DW. Other printers in this family are MFC-8860DN, MFC-8460N, etc..

The codes described did not work for me. Given that can somebody provide the sequence to:

    1. get in to the maintenance menu for the MFC-8870DW and,

    2. re-set the "Replace Fuser" count as well as other functions?

Also, is there any documentation available that describes the above and functions available under the maintenance menu?

    Thanks,

I figured out how to get into the Maintenance menu:

    1. Turn off the printer

    2. Hold down the Menu button

    3. Turn on the printer - DO NOT release the Menu button until the "Please Wait" message on bottom of the LCD disappears.

The lights on the printer (FAX, COPY, SCAN - blue lights, and the yellow STATUS ligth) will flash.

I know pressing 91 changes the top LCD line to show INIT on it and pressing 99 exits the Maintenance menu.

Pressing 91 did NOT get rid of the "Replace Fuser" message though - will keep trying. If anyone knows the sequence codes for resetting this counter back to 100% lief, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance,

I would suggest, unless you tried this, to use 92-98 and see what results you get. I'd also give the 8 numbers a try down to the zeros and ones as well. It the only strategy I know of the uncovers these closely guarded secrets and I really want to publish yours when you find it for the benefit of all.

I did not find anything regarding your exact printer either. When we techs have a machine in our hands, we ferret out the access method using the hunt and peck process. This may be your only hope.

Keep me informed when you do succeed.

Thanks, I know you will. You sound like the type of person who does not give up.

    Hello,

Did you start into the maintenance menu by opening the cover door and then pressing the Clear/Back key?

    Thanks,

Wrinkled copies

Fuser unit is about the only thing in this model of printer that WILL cause wrinkling/creasing of the paper. So most likely, yes you are going to need to replace the fusing assembly.

Resetting "Replace PF Kit 1" message

Same with me on my MFC 8870DW. The procedure worked perfectly:

1) Turn off printer
2) Press and hold menu button and turn on. Keep holding button until you see maintenance on display.
3) Press 88. This brings up parts replacement menu.
4) Press Up arrow until you see the part you replaced (laser, fuser, pf kit1, pf kit mp).
5) Press the OK button.
6) Power off and restart printer.

But how do I know whether or not I really NEED to replace a PF Kit1? I guess I'll find out if it recurs soon.
