make sure that the sound card is securely seated with no
dust in the socket then uninstall the sound card restart your computer and
reinstall the sound card and its drivers if your computer came
with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
Do you know for sure your speakers are working? Or is Windows saying there's no sound device? Does the Device Manager tree show any problems (! symbol) by sound hardware entries? Has the integrated sound been disabled in the BIOS settings?
Try downloading the sound drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website and reinstall. This often solves the problem.
If the integrated sound has failed, install a PCI sound card if there is an open slot on the board. Or you can also purchase a USB external sound card and plug it into an open USB port, and you don't even need to open the computer. Just be sure to disable the integrated sound in the motherboard BIOS setup.
Thanks for using Fixya! Hope your computer is talking again soon.
I formatted my hard drive and reinstall windows xp but no sound comes from speakers I tried to install audio drivers from the motherboard CD "foxconn" but PCI driver can not be installed what should i do?
i think your laptop is recommended for windows xp sp2 ... so if you install the sp2 then the sound may work .... if you have motherboard cd then get it installed tell me your laptop model otherwise exactly i will get you the links to drivers to download...........
You need to find out wich soundcard is inside your computer. If it is a brand pc or a laptop just repost the problem with correct model (eg: dell optiplex 800, Ibm 600, etc.). If not you need to open the cabinet and check which serial numbers are printed on your sound card, or on your motherboard if soundcard is integrated with motherboard.
post all numbers and you should get the right driver.
