I have a 62HM84 Toshiba TV. I lost picture on my TV in the past i have bought the lamps and i just put it on and the picture comes on. This time when i replaced the lamp nothing happens no picture. It tries 8 times to turn on, but nothing happens. Can you help me with is what is the problem.
The buzzing is the ballast arc gap,normal sound. When the tv starts does the lamp start to come on. Can you see any light from the back? Sounds like bad ballast. Unfortunatly this part is no longer available. the light engine will have to be removed and sent to Toshiba to be rebuilt.
Find and replace the following caps, Ec18, 19, 20 / 1000uf/16v, Ec9, 10 / 1000uf/35v, Ec14, 25 / 470uf/35v should resolve the problem. You can get the caps at almost any electronics supply.
This is a common problem in this unit.
The only solution at this point would be to get the power supply repair since new boards are not longer being manufactured. In about 95% of the time if the LCD doesn't power up or turns OFF by itself or need to be unplug for some time to make work again; those are the symptoms of a dying or defective power supply. I service these power supplies, for more info write to email@example.com
Good Day, jsilver05;
That's a very good TV, sorry you're having a problem. I have the same TV.
1. The blurring of the pic may be an indication of a convergence problem.
2. The surge protector is not a fail safe device, it will reduce damage to the TV but will not not 100% protect it.
It is possible that by turning the power off may damaged the already weaken convergence circuit, but more then likely some other electronic device failed.Like a voltage regulator, high voltage device,and etc.
At this point I would recommend that you call a factory authorized service dealer and them come out and give you an estimate, or you can e me if want troubleshoot TV if you have digital meter etc.

I had the same problem with my Sylvania TV. Turned out that the power supply in the tv was bad and had to be replaced. TV worked great for about 2 years then the same thing happened again. I recommend buying another brand.
We had the same problem, for the same model of Toshiba TV. Had it repaired yesterday. Turns out the problem was the power supply (P.C.B).
The total cost was $192.66 Canadian funds (taxes and labour all in). Our model was 6 years old, buts its playing like a brand new unit now. Hope this helped ...... Good luck
