Search a nearby computer retailer and it may have the thing. It must be a kit. Also, search online, like at eBay. It must be there. But if it is torn, there are really few chances of it getting recorded properly.
Do not clean it with any household items, as it can cause permanent data loss.

Dvd not burning

Sony made burners that required caddies a while back. And by looks of this post they also made special discs, listing for as much as $73 ea. Besides, magneto it more like tape.

Yours drive is a regular HP laptop burner. They are not compatible. You can get blank DVD's for $.50 each.

You must finalize the DVD on the Toshiba before it can be read on any other DVD player. Before finalization, it is possible to still add content to the DVD using the Toshiba but afterwards it will not be possible.

How do I use the cleaning disk and fluid

As I recall, insert the disc into the drive and let it spin up ( I'm assuming this is the cleaning disk with a set of soft small bristles on the surface), there is normally a small video that tells you when the drive laser lens has been cleaned. I'm not too sure about the cleaning fluid

The rule of thumb is 10-15 years, but I'm currently converting my old VHS tapes to DVD and they're 21/22 years old and still in pretty good shape.

Purchased a 10 pack of dvd-rw discs, 2 work and 8 dont what to do

You won't get any satisfaction contacting memorex. Before you take them back to the store, go online and check for a firmware upgrade for your dvd/cd drive. It's also possible that your burner has a dirty lens. If you can't upgrade your firmware/driver and the lens is clean, I'd bring the pack back to the store.

Hi,
Looks as if Fungus growth (which is quite normal due to prolonged storage and humidity) has covered the magnetic tapes inside your 8mm cassettes. Please do not try to Play these tapes on your camera as it can lead to clogging of cameras' video and audio heads. You can get these tapes cleaned by a qualified service personnel.

Hope this solves your problem. Thanks.

What disks to buy? dvdr dvdrw dvd+ dvd-????

DVD stands for Digital Versatile/Video Disc, DVDR stands for DVD Recordable and DVDRW for DVD ReWriteable. If you're familiar with regular audio/music CDs or regular DVD-Video discs, then you will know what a recordable DVD looks like. A recordable DVD stores up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video, including several audio tracks in formats like stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS and also advanced menu systems, subtitles and still pictures that can be played by many standalone DVD Players and most computer DVD-ROMs. If you choose to lower the video quality it is possible to store several hours video on a recordable DVD using low bitrates and low resolution with video quality more like VHS, SVHS, SVCD, CVD or VCD. It is also possible to have up to 4.37* GB ordinary data or mix DVD-Video and data on a recordable DVD that can be played by most computer DVD-ROMs.

There are three competing DVD Recording standards, DVD-R/DVD-RW and DVD+R/DVD+RW have pretty similiar features and are compatible with many standalone DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs while DVD-RAM has less DVD Player and DVD-ROM compatibility but better recording features.

DVD-R and DVD-RW
DVD-R was the first DVD recording format released that was compatible with standalone DVD Players.
DVD-R is a non-rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 93% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-RW is a rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 80% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-R and DVD-RW supports single side 4.37 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double sided 8.75 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by DVDForum.

DVD+R and DVD+RW
DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 89% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+RW is a rewritable format and is compatible with about 79% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+R and DVD+RW supports single side 4.37 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 8.75 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by the DVD+RW Alliance.

DVD+R DL
DVD+R DL or called DVD+R9 is a Dual Layer writeable DVD+R. The dual layered discs can hold 7.95 computer GB* (called DVD-9) and dual layered double sides 15.9* computer GB (called dvd-18).

DVD-R DL
DVD-R DL or called DVD-R9 is a Dual Layer writeable DVD-R. The dual layered discs can hold 7.95 computer GB* (called DVD-9) and dual layered double sides 15.9* computer GB (called dvd-18).

I got this info from http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071016055835AApo5e6

If your dvdrom supports dvdrw I would suggest buying these disks as you can re-write over them if you need too.
Most recent dvdroms support all of the above.
I hope this helps
