Question about RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8100
Blackberry 8100 scroll key notworking
I just fixed mine trackball which can only move in the vertical direction. By removing the silver cover (there are three small clips that hold it in place), the trackball and its enclosure will fall out. Carefully remove the white plastic cover (there are 2 clips that hold them in place) on the other side of the enclosure. Take out all 4 cylinders (4 magnet at the end) with tweezer and clean thoroughly. The 4 cylinders got clog with lint and dirt which prevent the ball in contact with the cylinder. This will solve your problem.

Pry off the silver ring with a flathead screwdriver and take out the trackball. Clean the little black rubber cylinders on the bottom of the trackball with alcohol. That may be enough to be up and running again. There are also blackberry repair services that can replace the trackball for you or blackberry repair guides that show you how to replace the trackball in more detail.

I had the same problem. The way to fix this is my removing the siler ring and taking out the scroll, in the scroll there are little metal skrews, remove those and there will be alot of dust that the scroll has swept up. Clean that out and it should work, if not I suggest you buy a new one... Good luck

Try removing the silver cover around the scroll ball, and remove the ball. There should be a little white square underneath it. If there is no white square, but a red square, then it could be water damage. I had the same issue with mine.
