Question about Hobart N50 Stand Mixer

N-50 service manual

Bigg t, I just bought an N-50 that's in pretty good shape. I would like to have the service manual for it in case I ever have to rebuild it. I've downloaded everything I could find on the Hobart Service website. I have the ability to rebuild if necessary, but I wouldn't do it without the manual. I plan on this mixer outliving me, and I've blown two other "consumer" mixers, so I'm fed up with that stuff. I have no immediate need, but Iknow from visiting this site that you are "The Man". Can you help in my search for a manual? Thanks in advance. Ricardo

bigg t. Thanks for the quick reply. I fully realise that Hobart does not release these manuals. I do have the exploded views for this mixer's components. I'm sure you know what I need for a potential rebuild. The fax # is 905 619-3275. Many thanks for your expertise. The fixya website and it's users are fortunate to have you online. Amen.

The newer one is ML 33777, ser no 31-1208-992; the older one is ML 19727-A, ser no 14060512. Fax: 978-540-4032. Thanks in advance. - Caroline

Kitchenaid frozen bearing

Hi Thaddeus, What model is it? If you have taken it apart and checked the worm gear surely you would have stumbled on the frozen bearing if one exists. When you split the gear cases you are in a position to turn everything by hand so any frozen part is going to be pretty obvious.

My mixer wont stay turned off it springs back to number 1 speed so i have to turn off via plug socket

Shelly, usually this can be repaired without needing ANY parts! Its pretty simple but you do have to tear apart the mixer. Here is a link to the service manual: http://ep.yimg.com/ty/cdn/mendingshed/kitchenaidservicemanual.pdf

99% of the time you are dealing with a loose screw. So take the mixer apart, once you have done that you will find the speed control lever with knob has a screw that holds it in place and in contact with the spring. That screw can work loose and if not all the way tightened will allow your mixer to pop back into speed one. Simply tighten the screw and see if the mixer will operate correctly.

If the speed lever is working through all 10 speeds correctly re-assemble the mixer. If it does not correct the problem you will want to buy the speed control lever kit.

This will include a new speed control lever with knob, the spring, link and a gearbox gasket.

The part number you will be looking for is 4176230, it is only about $7 plus shipping of $3.25.

How to check Artisan kitchenaid worm gear

If the planetary head (which holds the beater) is not reliably turning, you can be pretty sure that the worm gear (more properly called a worm follower gear) has protected the motor from burning out by sacrificing itself. The Service Manual may downloaded from:

Why is my kitchen aid mixers so Loud?

Could be,among other things:

Very worn brushes (although, in this case, the mixer usually stops entirely).
Worn gear(s).
Grease congealed and not lubricating correctly.

In any case, see the Service Manual at:

Kp2671 stops and starts

It is not going to be a problem with the motor. It is going to be a chipped/damaged gear, a bent planetary center shaft pin, or possibly the planetary itself.

The first thing you need to do is take the mixer apart. You are going to have to clean of all of the gears and inspect them very closely. I recommend using paper towels and wd-40. If there is any damage, the gear will need to be replaced, in some cases the pin that sits between the worm follower gear and bevel gear can become bent, if it is, it also needs to be replaced. If all of the gears, bearings, and the pin are in perfect shape inspect your planetary assembly. In some cases the center shaft, which is pressed into the planetary can become loose, so it will still spin under no load, but as soon as you put something in the bowl it stops spinning.

Here is a link to the KitchenAid service manual. This will walk you through how to take the mixer apart, and put it back together: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaid6qtservicemanual.pdf

Please let me know if you have any questions, or need help with the repair.

Thank you,

Colleen

Hi,

It sounds like the Planetary Gear assy. has gear lubricant leaking into it from the gear case above it. This may not be that unusual so there may be 2 possibilities or a combination of both. The Gear Case is directly above the Planetary Gear assy. It is filled (sort of) with a food grade (assuming...I hope) grease that is necessary to keep things lubed. There are fiber washers and possibly an o-ring in the shaft assembly which should keep the grease from migrating toward your food. The Planetary Gear assy. is the part that rotates around on the business end of the mixer. It has a bronze bearing that is intended to run without lubrication. However it is a wear point and if worn sufficiently, could allow escape lubricant from the gear case above to drip into your mix. The Kitchen Aid Service Manual is a good source of info. You can get it as well as complete diagrams of the internal parts at:
http://www.goodmans.net/get_item_ka-4162075_kitchenaid-mixer-4162075-planetary.htm

You can also get parts and the KitchenAid Service Manual.pdf at:
http://www.mendingshed.com/kitaidparts.html

I know if it was my mixer, I'd give it a look. They're good tools and worth the effort!

Good luck.

Small screw and nut?

By turning the screw cw or ccw it adjusts the clearance on the worm shaft assembely,in other words if the mixer is noisy by adjusting this screw you can quiet it down.
