Sir,

Check whether the drive is properly installed and has no errors listed next to it in the device manager...it also appears in "My Computer". check the driver installed for it per the device manager is cdrom.sys (generic cdrom driver from Microsoft) and it's located in the system32 directory. Also try to update the Operating system(OS). Latest download updates and hotfix from the microsoft site.

thanks
good luck

After downloading, you need to install the driver too, if you forgot. The wires should all be connected. Or maybe the drivers are faulty. It can happen even though you downloaded it from the manufacturer.
Also, check if you have a setup CD. It may be the case. Also, check if the device is compatible with the other parts, specially your motherboard.

Hi,

It shoudn't require any extra drivers, they come with Windows 2000 and newer including XP and vista. You shouldn't need drivers.

When its pluged it it should function right away, how is the connected? USB?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I doubt if drivers are even needed. The ASUS DRW-2014L1 will be read as a CD/DVD with the built-in drivers of Windows. What may be needed is to set the jumpers of the unit to "MASTER".

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

    Hi again,

    A few ideas you can try/explore:

    • measure the voltages that goes into the DVD unit:

    1. red - +5

    2. black, black - GND

    3. yellow - +12

    • try the DVD internally if the computer is a desktop and has spare IDE board connector. If it will be used next to an HD, pls make sure the HD is set to "Master" while the DVD to a "Slave"

    • try a different USB port;

    • try in another PC;

    • try another IDE to USB adapter/interface.

ASUS Driver wont operate

Here's a solution to fix this:

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT
and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer

Thanks for using Fixya.
