If this is your first experience with a Norton product either discombobulating, or in need of being uninstalled and wiped clean from your system, you're quite likely to be in for a real "interesting experience". When I say "interesting experience", I don't mean the pleasant kind. This is an "interesting experience" I've had to endure countless dozens of times over. Notice I did say "likely", not necessarily. It is my sincere hope you will be greeted with success via the NRT alone.
The NRT (Norton Removal Tool) http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 is offered by Symantec, the software publisher of all Norton products. It is designed to remove all traces of whatever target Norton product you have in need of zapping. And why? Because THEIR uninstaller failed. But unfortunately, the NRT is VERY hit and miss in it's success rate.
If after running the NRT you still have problematic remnants remaining, you'll have to MANUALLY remove them. And if you ever need proof as to how frequently the "miss" part occurs, you'll readily see if/when you do the necessary subsequent search for the appropriate manual removal checkist.
Enter "How to manually uninstall PRODUCT_NAME" (without quotes) into the Symantec search engine (upper right in their webpage). Where PRODUCT_NAME = the exact name of the product you wish to uninstall. Carefully search through the long list of choices until you find the one that (most closely) matches your particualr Norton product. But I'll give you fair warning, if you're not comfortable working within the Windows registry, you're best off getting someone you know who is to assist you. It's also typically a fairly lengthy and tedious checklist to run (unless you've run it many times).
Are you beginning to sense my opinion of Norton yet? A word to the wise is sufficient. Anyway, time to get off the soapbox.
Good luck, and feel free to post back with a status update and/or further questions.
