Question about Cross Furnace Draft Inducer Blower 115 Volts Fasco # A064

16 year old Heil 75K btu furnace, some times does not ignite.

Sometimes I hear the system trying to fire up but no ignition and pilot flame does not come on. Then I have to manually ignite the pilot flame near the spark plug to get the burner to start burning. Most of the time it fires up on its own. Where does the natural gas go when it fails to ignite ? Do you think I need to replace the ignitor assembly or do you think I should get a new furnace ?

I have a Heil CUGI100AF01 about 17 years old. The tstat calls for heat but the furnace does not start. then after a while (eg 1 hour)the furnace turns on and warms up house until tstat is satisfied. The furnace does not cut out in the middle of warming house - it runs to completion as expected. If needed it will turn on again on the next tstat call and repeat. Then eventually it get into this lock mode.

However, if I open the furnace bottom cover or turn off power, then the furnace restarts as expected and warms up house.

This problem happens intermittently in cold weather.

What I do notice is that when the furnace turns on I hear a click-click-click then the burners ignite. Should I be hearing this clicking sound?

Furnace has never had a repair. Is there some basic stuff I can do to diagnose or clean? I've read about flame sensors etc...

Removing the front cover or turning the line switch off and back on causes a "HARD" reset to the furnace. That means, it breaks the line or supply voltage to the furnace and causes the main control board to reset. The main reason for requiring a hard reset is a failure to fire up correctly. There are several reasons for this to happen. If or when the flame sensor detects a flame determines the whole process. When the thermostat calls for heat, the ignition controller delivers spark to the pilot assembly and the pilot gas valve opens. If the sensor detects a pilot flame, the main gas valve opens and the main burners ignite. The pilot flame can be pulled away from the sensor when the main gas opens just long enough to cause this type of failure before the main flame is sensed. The furnace will shut down thinking it is feeding in raw gas with no pilot present to ignite it. All of this happens in just a few seconds. If there is a small window in the burner cover, you can watch it fire after the reset for a clue to the cause. If there is not an inspection window with a sealed combustion chamber to watch it through, it would be best to call a good tech. as it is dangerous with such a short period to ignite while all that gas is flooding the combustion chamber. Check to see if the line from the pilot to the gas valve is tight. If possible, try to move the sensor a little closer to the pilot. If this does not work, best to call a tech. who is familiar with your furnace. Other test with an open combustion chamber are very dangerous and best left to the pros.

Furnace will not start on it's own.

Hi Shelley, I'm sorry this is late, I have a back problem and often times can not sit at the computer. Removing the front cover causes a "HARD" reset to the furnace. That means, it breaks the line or supply voltage to the furnace. The main reason for requiring a hard reset is a failure to fire up correctly. The flame on the sensor can vary between lighting the pilot and the main burner ignition. The flame can be pulled away from the sensor just long enough to cause this type of failure before the main flame is sensed. The furnace will shut down thinking it is feeding in raw gas with no pilot present to ignite it. All of this happens in just a couple seconds. If there is a small window in the burner cover, you can watch it fire by holding the switch in by hand. If there is not an inspection window with a sealed combustion chamber, it would be best to call a good tech. as it is dangerous with such a short period to ignite while all that gas is flooding the combustion chamber. Without knowing exactly how to do this, it could explode. BE CAREFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I have a Heil system when themosta calls for heat the spark ignitor energize but the burners won't ignite. I replaced the time delay limit switch but it still won't ignite. I hear the gas valve click

is pilot lighting??? if pilot is lighting then flame sensor is ng and will not allow main gas valve to opens (its doing its job as a safety if this is the case)

16 yr old heil furnace sometime lights on 1st ignition other times it lights then burners go out right away it might do it 3 or 4 times then it stays lit

The air intake may need to be adjusted or check the gas valve or if it is oil check your cad cell it may not be registering your flame and needs to be replaced that is normally pretty cheap. good luck

Lennox furnace 17 yeanrs old. flame comes on and the shuts down sometimes right away some times in a few minutes. We have the furnace go down to 58 at night. It takes all day to get back to 67.

Sounds like a dirty flame sensor.
Also 9 degrees is a large swing to recover. Most specialist will advise no more than a 5 degree set back, otherwise recovery time eliminates any savings you may achieve.

I have a coleman evcon and the gas keeps shutting off

The click noise you hear is the magnet inside the valve dropping out. Which means, the voltage that energizes it is low or interupted. Possible, weak pilot flame, bad thermocouple or bad secondary limit switch. This limit switch is located left of the main control. made of ceramic. It can also be a bad gas valve...

Furnace burner ignites then goes out

Sound like a thermocouple, or flame sensor.
If it has flame sensor make sure you check micro amps to verify operation, because it might be the board that controls the sensor.

Gas flows to long before igniting.

try cleaning the crossovers between the burners. Also look closely at the flame and make sure that the burner is firing all the way to the pilot. Sometimes its just a few little holes that vent a little gas to give the flame a path to follow will be stopped up and cause the condition you describe
