Cannot program remote control to receiver

We just changed the batteries in our Philips remote control (rc19041003) and now it no longer works with the Directtv receiver (also Philips).

I called Directtv but they no longer have the codes for this receiver in their database

You should have direct tv replace both units for you, They are providing the service and it is their responsibility to keep their customer up and working. A battery change should not affect the use of the product. There must be something wrong with the receiver if it cannot operate correctly after such a normal use from the user as a battery change. I hope this helps you with your problem.

Direct Code Entry
  1. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  2. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  3. Enter the 4 digit code from the code tables. Note: after a valid code entry, the red indicator turns off. For an invalid code, the red indicator flashes.
  4. With your device on, press CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. Note: If some buttons do not operate your device, try one of the other codes for your brand.

Remote doesn't control on/off,volume or channels

Remote won't workThe most common reasons the remote won't work is that the batteries are dead or it hasn't been programmed properly. It's often easy to fix. Here are the steps to take to troubleshoot the problem.
Make sure you have a clear path between the remote and the infrared eye on your equipment. Clear any dust or debris that may be covering the eye.

Try unlocking the battery-saving mode. When a button is pressed for longer than three minutes, the remote goes into battery-saving mode. Press the SAT mode button at the top to unlock it. Your remote should work properly.

Check the batteries. When you press a mode button, does it light up? If not, you may be out of juice. Check to make sure they are in the right way, with the metal ends making good connections with the metal in the remote. If they're in correctly and you still don't get power, try replacing them. They may be dead.Learn about batteries

Check to make sure the remote is programmed properly, which basically means you reprogram it to work with your receiver, TV and any other components. Start with the receiver and work your way through programming each component that isn't working. We tell you how to program remotes in our guide to remotes.Learn about remotes

Still no go? You may have an internal problem with the remote. You'll have to talk to a Shaw Direct customer service representative. Call 1.888.554.7827.Be prepared to tell us:What components you have. All of the steps you've been through to try and solve the problem yourself. Can't change channels on receiverThis is almost always caused by a programming problem with the remote. Here are the steps to take to troubleshoot the problem.
Make sure you are in SAT mode. The receiver will only change channels when the remote is in the correct mode.Look for a timer. If you have a timer set, the receiver won't let you change channels. This ensures you don't miss recording a program with an external device. If a timer is set and you want to watch another channel, simply turn off the receiver and turn it back on.Learn about timers

Make sure the problem is with the remote and not the receiver. Try the buttons on the front of the receiver. Try to change channels. If your model doesn't have channel buttons, try to turn the machine off. If you can't change channels or power off, the problem is with the receiver. Try unplugging it for two minutes and plugging it in again.

If you can change the channels or power off, the problem is with the remote. Press any mode button on the remote. It should light up. If not, you probably have low batteries. They should be replaced.

Try unlocking the battery-saving mode. When a button is pressed for longer than three minutes, the remote goes into battery-saving mode. Click on any of the mode buttons at the top to unlock it. Your remote should work properly.

Try re-programming the remote to talk to your receiver.Find the manual for your remote control

Check to see if your Shaw Direct Receiver is using the same remote control address as your remote control. If you are using the DSR 319, HDDSR 505, or HDPVR 530 receiver press the Options button on the front panel of your Shaw Direct receiver. An options menu should appear on your screen. Using the direction keys on the front of your receiver navigate to 6 - System Setup and then press the Enter button on the front panel of the receiver. Using the same directional and Enter buttons go to 4 - System Setup. Then 3 - Installation Settings. Followed by 2 - Remote control Address. If you are using a legacy receiver such as the DSR 315, DSR 405, or any other receiver with front panel buttons, press the Options button on the front panel of your Shaw Direct receiver. An options menu should appear on your screen. Using the direction keys on the front of your receiver navigate OPTIONS and then press the Enter button on the front panel of the receiver. Using the same directional and Enter buttons go to 6 - Change System Settings. Then 3 - Change Installation Settings. Followed by 2 - Set Remote Control Address.Follow the on-screen instruction to reset the remote control address on your receiver and remote control.Check the back of your remote, if you own the IRC/URC 550 or RT-U50 remote controls you will need to enter the remote control address differently from what is displayed on screen. To program these remotes, hold the ENTER and MUTE button on your remote at the same time until the mode buttons at the top start to illuminate then enter the last three digits of the number displayed in "Current Address" column on the screen, then press the MUTE button to lock in the code. For example: If the remote address on the screen displays 0002, you would hold ENTER + MUTE until the mode button illuminated and then enter 0 0 2, followed by ENTER on your remote control. If you own the IRC 551 or URC 551 remote control you can follow the instruction depicted on the screen, but you must substitute the follows numbers in place those specified: 00869 for 0000, 01870 for 0001, 01871 for 0002, 01872 for 0003, 01873 for 0004, 01874 for 0005, 01875 for 0006, 01876 for 0008. For example: If the remote address on the screen displays 0003, you would hold the SAT button until it flashes, press 01872, then ENTER, to lock in the new code.Still no go? Hi there,

Sorry but without knowing the particular model number of the remote control or indeed whether or not it is a philips universal remote control, I can't give you a definative answer to your problem. I recomend however, if you haven't changed the batteries in your remote that you put new one's in as the batteries maybe too weak to operate the remote fully, this will at least eliminate this possibility. If you are using using a Philips universal remote control then try resetting the remote using the correct code for machine, if you don't know the code then try the Philips support website for the code for your tv. After that I would consider that either the remote or the machine has developed a fault where the remote's I/R no longer transmits or the machine's I/R receiver no longer works. Personally I would purchase a cheap / middle of the range universal remote and try that to see if that works as it is a much cheaper option than having the machine looked at by a technician. If you would rather there are online sites where you can by genuine remotes for most tv's etc but obviously this is a more expensive option than a universal replacement.

Hope this helps,

James

I've changed the batteries in my Philips Universal Remote and I still cannot get it to change. What should I do?

heres a handy little trick to determine whether your remote control is working. Get hold of a radio and switch it to AM band receive (any frequency). Hold the remote control near to the aerial and press any of the buttons..you should hear a squeeling noise from the radio. This proves that the remote control is working and that the TV is at fault. If you dont hear any noise from the radio, your remote control is faulty and you can obtain a new remote from the link below.

http://www.espares.co.uk/search/remote-controls/philips/p/1090/128?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=philips%2Bremotes&utm_campaign=Remote%2BControls

If you hear squeeling from the radio during the remote control test, then the TV infra red receiver board is faulty, and is located behind the small clear glass lense on the front bottom front casing of the TV. Hope this helped :)

I changed the batteries in my phillips universal remote and when I did it would not work. I have a magnavox tv but I do not have the code or know the steps to fix it

You shouldn't have to do anything after changing the batteries. Philips and Magnavox are the same brand, so the Philips univeral control should work your TV without programming it. Check the batteries and make sure your new ones are in facing the right direction. Also be sure the new batteries are actually good. I've fixed remotes for people by just changing the batteries again, even though the replacements were fresh out of the package. Also, did the old batteries leak in the remote? The battery contacts may have corrosion on them. There's also the chance the TV's remote sensor is at fault. If you can, try the remote with another Magnavox TV or program it for another device and see if it's working, or try another remote with your TV. If you need programming instructions for your remote, you can usually find them on the manufacturer's website.

Problems with your Philips 37PF7320A 37 in remote control

If the remote has been replaced the IR receiver could be bad. Try changing the channels with by the tv. Most likely that is the problem.Beside that the small signal board could be an issue. But I would the IR receiver would be first.
