No, it can handle an 80Gb. But before you do that reset first the firmware cause it helps your computer to prepare whatever plug and play devices the you may attach to it. or Upgrade your previous firmware to a higher version.

I have aemachine w4620 with 80g hard drive and 1g memory, can i upgrade my hard driveand will it takemore memory?

Max memory is 2GB. The stock hard drive is an 80GB ATA/IDE type, 4200rpm - larger ones are available in 100G, 120G, 160G, 320G, and .. I believe 500G. So the answer is: both can be upgraded or, more precisely, replaced with higher capacities.

That takes an IDE HDD. They are universal so any notebook IDE HDD will replace that 1. I like Weatern Digital because they really are good about standing behind their hard drives. Now it only came with a 4200 RPM so when u upgrade purchase the 5400 RPM. If the bios firmware only supports the 60GB then u will need to format a larger drive with a second partition using admin tools as a mass storage device.

It's just a 2.5 SATA drive so any drive will more than likely do.....don't lock yourselft ito 80GB when there are 320, 500, etc out there. What is most important is the largest drive your system BIOS will recognize....which most ROMs can be flashed for compatability with newer larger drives.

Check with your Laptop Manufacturer Support Site to see the largest drive supported by your BIOS and if there are any updates.

If you have your hear set on the 80GB Hitachi take a look at the Spec sheet (more like a book)from Hitachi at the link below which provides specs on the 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100GB drives: http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/28DCCB17E0EEC5A086256F4E006E2F5B/$file/5K100_SATA_sp1.2.pdf

Replacing a hard drive in a Laptop is probably easier than replacing a light bulb, IMO.

IDE #0 is where your hard drive connects to your computer's motherboard. You may be able to connect your hard drive to IDE#1 or you will have to have your motherboard replaced.
