IBM Thinkpad wont power up lights come on for about 3 seconds and back off. Please help

Problem sounds like the power pin ... where the AC cord connects to thecomputer. That particular component is very fragile. The part torepair it runs between $ 5-$15 but the labor to repair it will costanywhere from $ 100-$250. It can be repaired by you if you are verycareful taking the system apart. Just pay attention to every detail ofyour dis-assembly. I also recommend you get one of these to stop the problem from happening a 2nd time.

My IBM T40 boots to a black screen with the "z"(light at top to right of power.

Try these steps:

1. Remove battery and unplug AC adapter
2. Press power on button for 30 seconds or so (one min is also too)
3. Attach battery and plug into wall
4. Power "ON" as normal

If you are still getting the "Z" and a black screen then I would have the video card or hard drive looked at and replaced. Start with the video card and then look at the hard drive

Computer want boot up

try taking the battery out for a day. then put it back in. see if it comes back on. i dont know why this happens but it happend to me once.

I have a IBM 600x recently installed windows xp sucessfully and today it wont boot up at all it wont acept a charge using the ac adapter apears to have power/the adapter light lights up when not plugged...

Try taking the battery out and just use the AC adaptor.
Does the PC "come on" when you press the power button?
Does it show the animation bar at the bottom of the screen when XP first starts?
