Question about Sony CDX-MP40 CD Player

1 Answer

Cdx-mp40 Installed the headunit, the unit ejects and takes CDs so there is power but nothing else happens. All power leads are connected and the earth is connected. I have switched the yellow and red leads as suggested in the installation guide. The CD sometimes auto-ejects when the face is released but not always. I have an illumination lead from my car which doesn't connect to anything on the CDx-MP40, i presume the face is powered from the red and yellow leads. Any thoughts...

I checked the fuse box yesterday and the permanent fuse had blown (the dead interior light should have woken me to that). So it's all working fine now, but thank's for the advise anyway.

You are correct, the unit powers entirely from the red and yellow leads. Your symptoms sound like a unit that isn't getting power on the red (switched) lead. The most likely cause is a blown fuse in your vehicle's fuse box.

I had the same problem, CD not accepted by unit and pressing source button to select CD player causes unit to display reset.
Using reset button just causes unit to 'whir' for a while, problem is not solved. Firstly with unit switched off, and the ignition off I inserted a CD using some gentle force, I then inserted a second CD, forcing it in over the top of the first. Next I pressed and held the reset button for a short time before releasing it. Both CDs were ejected, when the unit had stopped I took the CDs out, replaced the front panel and turned on the ignition, The unit will now accept CDs and eject them O.K.

(This did take two attempts to get right). Seems to reset the eject status of the CD player.

Sounds like a jammed micro-switch, open it up and check for dirt in the loading mech.

Sony CDX-MP40 won't power up the amp.

Most in-dash stereos have a blue wire in the harness which is used as a "wake up" signal for external amps. Did you connect this? Does it have any voltage on it when the stereo is on?

MP3 files start skipping/popping after few minutes of playback

Sony say in the manual that if you record high bit-rate mp3's the sound may be intermittent. I feel this is due to the decoder having to move ALOT of bits around to play, try some makeing a disk with mixed rate mp3's on. e.g.) some 64Kbps, some 128, some 192, and some as high as you can get and see if there is any differ Luck
