My MP530 is having the same issue.  The error message states that I have more than one of the same ink cartridges installed.  Upon following the above instructions, the error message changes to 'Inside Cover Open", and then back to 'Check Ink'.  Any additional suggestions?

This was not written by an English speaking native. Simply put, these instructions don't work, not as written anyway. Anyone care to interpret in English?

your reset instructions make the error light go off but the message comes back after turning it back on

This works part of the way on MP530:
    1. Turn off the printer
    2. Hold the "\ red triangle in red circle" button and then HOLD the power "on/off" button. You are now holding BOTH buttons. Wait for beep and "copy" light comes on.
    3. Release the "\" button, still hold the power button.
    4. Press the "\" button twice.
    5. Release the on/off button. Machine starts up, no USB connection, and the error light "triangle with lightning bolt" flashes FOUR times, then off, repeating.
    6. I am stuck here. No buttons work except on/off.

My Canon MP530 is giving 6A00 error message and alarm light is flashing along with copy button. i have replaced empty ink cartridges with new ones. Can anyone help, please?

Error code 6A00 indicates an error occurred in the AP motor during purging operation. You need to replace sheet feed unit, logic board assy and purge unit to fix it. Before replacement of the logic board assy, check the waste ink amount (by service test print or EEPROM information print). If the waste ink amount is 7% or more, also replace the ink absorber kit when replacing the logic board assy.

I have a canon MP530 waste ink pad near full. what should i do?

Press the OK button.
The service call error, indicating the waste ink absorber is full,
is likely to occur soon.
Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing
cannot be done until the waste ink absorber is replaced.

To reset it:
With the machine power turned off, while pressing the Stop/Reset button, press and hold the ON/OFF button. (DO NOT
release the buttons). The COPY button lights in green to indicate that a function is selectable.
2) While holding the ON/OFF button, release the Stop/Reset button. (DO NOT release the ON/OFF button.)
3) While holding the ON/OFF button, press the Stop/Reset button 2 times, and then release both the ON/OFF and Stop/Reset
buttons. (Each time the Stop/Reset button is pressed, the Alarm LED and COPY button light alternately, Alarm in orange
and COPY in green, starting with Alarm LED.) "CANON Idle" is displayed on the LCD.
4) When the COPY button lights in green, press the Stop/Reset button the specified number of time(s) according to the function
listed in the table below. (Each time the Stop/Reset button is pressed, the Alarm LED and COPY button light alternately,
Alarm in orange and COPY in green, starting with Alarm LED.)

If the ink was refilled, you need to reset or get a new chip for the cartridge. If it is a new Canon ink they will exchange it. Sometimes the pins in the carriage get bent and then they can't read the chip on the cartridge.

2) While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (DO NOT release the Power button.)

15 Orange (alarm) return to the menu selection,.

Note: If the Resume/Cancel button is pressed 16 or more times, the Alarm or Power LED lights steadily without
any changes.

[hth: if the alarm light is flashing 15 times at turn-on [cartridge not recognized error], none of these procedures seem to work.

I really hope this can help you.

Alarm light on, Display indicates error message: Check Ink U150 M

I added my post today with the same problem, and thought I'd share what I since learned. Apparently this "Alarm light/U150" is common with several Canon models. The U150 indicates a faulty electronic chip (on the ink cartridge). Though I tried cleaning the sensor with isopropyl alcohol, and also tried removing all the cartridges, unplugging the printer for 45 seconds, then reconnecting, etc. as I had read might help, I still had the same frustrating problem. Contacting Canon was the solution that worked for me. First I emailed, but decided I didn't want to wait for their response. A call to Canon Tech Support (1-800-385-2155) was quick and painless. They will more than likely send you a new cartridge, but you'll need to have your serial # & date of purchase handy.
