This Sound like you may have a bad battery. try exchanging batteries. I am very sure that this will be the problem, in which case you will need to contact the company that sales the radio and ask about a warranty exchange on the battery.

I have the yaesu ft990, the problem is when turning the power switch one, the radio goes dim, all lights flash, and gives of a load buzz, but if i keep turning on and off, it will power up properly.

odd issue. It sounds like the power supply is not working correctly. The noise must be the power supply either powering on or issuing a noise through the speaker. Dim lights add to my suspicion. Take the housing off and check all connections are tight. Unplug it from the wall first. Is using a battery backup, unplug that too. The easiest test is to take another power supply and wire it in the place of the internal one. Make certain you have one large enough (enough amps) or use a 12 volt battery. If it powers up fine from either the new power supply or battery it IS your power supply.

When turning on screen stays black

I have this same model never had a problem with it, test your batteries to make sure they are at least 1.5 volts. Move the batteries to make sure they are contacting the terminals.
not sure if this will work for yours but try it
To perform a master reset:
  1. Turn off the device
  2. Press the PAGE, ENTER2, and POWER buttons simultaneously
  3. Release all buttons once the Do you really want to erase all user data? message appears

You can find a copy of the user guide at:
The power/menu button will turn the radio on/off by holding it in a long press. Once the radio is on this same button acts as a menu button when pressed a short press.

Have two T5720 radios, one receives but dosn't transmit or visa versa. Also one radios light blinks faster then the other one. What's the problem?

Check your programming of frequency and code. It is possible you have the radios on the same frequency but different codes. As far as the blinking light, this could be related to the amount of power in the battery, or to a programming problem. Take the radio back to a very simple operation by shutting off special features such as Qt filtering, and Call Alert, then see if you can get the two radios to talk to one another. If so, you can add the features you want turned on back in one at a time.

Here is a link to the user guide: Programming starts on page 18.

Best regards.

I need to program

Here is a link to the CP100 user manual, it is the sister radio to the XTN, and programs the same way.
Refer to the bottom of page 20 to get started programming.

Basically you hold in the PTT and the MON button while turning the radio on. Continue to hold them in until it stops making noise. This puts you in programming mode, and you can use the menu button and the + and - to walk you through reprogramming the radio.
