I have 4 DVC 7s that I use in my classroom. Recently I have had 2 of them display the folowing problem:
They seem to record just fine but on play back the LCD shows the camera setting and controls on the screen and appears to resond to rewind and fast forward. But, the LCD remains blue. It doesn't appear to be reading the tape. I have tried different tapes and tapes that I am certain have good content ....no luck still blue. I have also tried the reset button on the camera. Again no luck.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Well, it didn't fix my camera, but when I plug it in to the USB port, and hold down Enter, Play, Record, and the Pic/Shutter top button simultaneously for 5 seconds or so when the camera boots, it goes into test mode. At which time it goes through tests, but doesn't really fix anything. Good luck to you.
It should say:
pcba test program 2 times
then prompt you to hit the power button
I have the same problem. I have no fix in rec mode but if it happens during playback; press menu and select the zoom options. You don't have to pick any but just keep the menu displayed on the screen. I do this while recording the tape to my DVD recorder and it solves the locked zoom problem. The menu display does not get recorded.
This zoom problem is a big pain. We should start a class action suit against Canon. It started within a year of ownership with mine. I bought a Panasonic recently and haven't looked back.
Panasonic doesn't have the slick Canon marketing/packaging but it is a much better machine.
