Question about FrancisFrancis! X1 - Stainless Steel Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Francis X1 overheat quickly

Hi,
My X1 worked fine for 2 years.
Now it overheats and get to 140 in temperature in less than 1mn. So best way to make a coffee is to time it to be there when it reachs 100 degres and start my coffee at that time. Not good when you have friends as I can not make more than 1 coffee.. it takes about 1hr for temperature to come back down even with the machine on off.
Today is getting worst... no water is leaking...
Any suggestions?
Bertrand

    Hey,
    Thanks.
I tried this. I ran twice a decalcifier but without success.
Any tip on running decalcifier? or specific brand that work better than others?

Did the decalcifying work? Because mine gets so hot (so fast) it spits... Not sure how I could do it. I have the goods... but could use the help!

Hey. you have calcium build up on the wands that go in your boiler so they can't messure the temp properly so it keeps heating.buy a decalcifier from any coffee site online or coffee machine sales and repaires place.

the only thing to do now is open up the machine to see the top of the boiler. there will be one or two bolts with ends stiking out, make sure you have released all the steam pressure. undo the bolt and inside attatched to the bolt is a rod. give em a good scrub and try again.

My Francis Francis x1 wont heat

You should check the temperature of the water coming out from the machine when it show that is heated. If it is lower than 90 C then the thermostat inside the machine attached to the boiler is need to be replaced. If the temperature of the water is about 90C then the problem is with thermometer, and in this case is only an accesorie since the machine can faction properly and make a good espresso.

Í have a francis francis X1 for 3 years now.

Hi
There are 4 nuts that hold the chrome head on. They are either 7mm or 8mm nuts. Loosen then and the head should twist out.

Model X1 overheat

I had the same problem with my Francis Francis X3 overheating. I'm certain the thermostatic controls are similar and I suspected that as the problem. I did not want to pay the roughly $180-$200 to send it in for repair so I opened the X3, located the thermostat and discovered that it was a Prodigy Italiana TR/86 30C-120C adjustable thermostat with the temperature control knob removed and the "P2" wire-lug removed. I could not find one online, but later discovered that Chris' Coffee Service sells it for the Zaffiro here: http://www.chriscoffee.com/products/home/isomacparts/zaffirothermostat.
You should probably open your X1 and confirm the thermostat(s) before ordering. Ironically, I ordered the thermostat, put my old thermostat and machine back together so I could try to use it for a few more days while I waited for the new thermostat to arrive, and all of the jostling apparently freed up the thermostat in my machine so that it started working properly again. The new thermostat arrived and it is an exact match, so I have set it aside for when the orginal one permanently fails, and I know it will. Good Luck!

Low temperature

I had the francis francis examined.  It is indeed the boiler, a $200 fix if you could get the part.  Francis Francis X1 is now a brick!

Francis Francis! x1 leaking

Well, to state the obvious, you should call Francis! Francis! at 1-877-854-4141 and ship it to them for repair. It's unlikely you can perform a fix yourself. Have you tried opening the machine up? I got PDFs of diagrams and part lists, which I obtained by calling them at the number quoted above. Good luck! Stephen
