USB MP3 player is connected, and shows up fine in Windows.  In WMP 11, under the Sync tab, it reads "Connect a device", even though my MP3 player is connected.

SOURCE: Windows media player says no device connected

Windows Media Player has a limit of 3 portable devices that can be detected at any one time. I would uninstall every mp3 player's software that is installed on that machine and try again.

SOURCE: GPX MW3337 sync problem

1- Check that your MP3 Player's File system is OK, you can do that using the DOS command (chkdsk /f). 2- Re-install your Windows Media Player 11. 3- Don't forget to update your system, too.

SOURCE: Sync'ing to my MP3 player "did not fit on device"

I had the same problem, and found out a solution. The reason no more files fit even though there is room is that the File Allocation Table can only fit so many entries. Your's must be at the limit. What you do is create a folder under the main folder and copy files there. It should work.

SOURCE: Switch from MTP to USB

I had this same problem and was able to solve it. Just go into Control Panel (make sure it's in Classic View)-> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager, right click the GPX icon under Protable Devices and then click unistall. Then disconnect and reconnect the player. Windows will automatically install the drivers and that's it, you can now go into USB mode again. Hope it helps.

SOURCE: mp3 player won't sync with media player on vista

Do you have Windows Media Player 11? When you plug your device in and hit sync you should be prompted automatically, to name your device.

Also try:
Plug in the device, press the POWER BUTTON go to MY COMPUTER and double ckick on the Setup.exe icon.
This will install the MP3 Player's software onto the connected computer. At least that's what the manual says.

Dont know how to set up zune with laptop

Just download the software from zune.net and then connect your Zune HD to your laptop with the USB cable and you can then add all of your media to the device. In order to wirelessly sync your device you'll need to first connect it with the cable and setup the wireless sync settings. After that you don't need to use the cable to connect your Zune to your laptop.

Use Windows Media Player

The instructions in these pages, which are largely links, pertain to Windows Media Player 10 and 11 only.

Windows Media Player is made by Microsoft. The general help page for Windows Media Player is:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx

Through this link, you can enter a variety of search terms that will help you find what you are looking for (exs.: “add files to my mp3 player”; “delete files from my mp3 player,” etc.)

Important Vocabulary:

The code word for “mp3 player” in Windows Media Player is “DEVICE” or “portable device”

The code word for adding files is “SYNC,” “syncing,” or “synchronizing”

The code word for copying files from CD is “RIP,” or “ripping”

The code word for files stored on both My Computer and my Mp3 player (when it is connected to the computer) is “LIBRARY”

To add files (SYNC) to your mp3 player using Windows Media Player 10:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/windowsmediaplayer/wmp10/harrison_wmp10.mspx

To add files (SYNC) to your mp3 player using Windows Media Player 11:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/sync.mspx

To delete files from your mp3 player using Windows Media Player 10:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/mediaadvice/0085.mspx#EDF

To delete files from your mp3 player using Windows Media Player 11:

My Directions:

1. Connect your mp3 player to the computer

2. Open Windows Media Player

3. Click on the icon of your Mp3 player on the left-hand side of the Library

4. Click on the Songs, Tracks, or other Music Folder

5. Find a song or songs that you want to delete

6. Left-click the song once to highlight it

7. Press the “Delete” button on your computer’s keyboard

To copy (RIP) files from CD to Mp3 player using Windows Media Player 10:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/windowsmediaplayer/getstarted/ripcd.mspx

To copy (RIP) files from CD to Mp3 player using Windows Media Player 11:

Device firmware

http://www.zune.net/en-us/support/usersguide/default.htm

There are two ways to format an Mp3 player - one on the computer itself, and one in Windows Media Player. Both methods will end up erasing all the songs on the player, but the player will be "good as new" after that. Sometimes reformatting in this manner will override the player's native formatting and cause problems - this can be reversed in most cases by updating the player's firmware. Firmware upgrades are available from most manufacturers' websites.

WARNING: The following procedures will erase all songs on the player.

Check if the file system is NTFS. If yes, format it to FAT or FAT32. - Connect player to computer, double-click my computer, right click on icon of mp3 player and select format. This only applies to Windows-based computers.
You can also format the player in Windows Media Player itself:
Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "name of Mp3 player here 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.

Can the Zune sync with Windows Media Player?

There is a way and none of your solutions work. There is a software you can download and use as a Hack but the problem is that is does not work with Windows XP/Vista/7...Windows Media Player does not recognize the Zune as a devioce or a player, just like Windows will not recognize it as a storage drive in Windows Explorer. You would figure with Zune being a Microsoft Product, that it would work well with other MS products but they screwed up somewhere and did not get the memo that Zune is a MS product
