Question about Koss KS4110 DVD Player

1 Answer

No image The KS4110 (2 yrs old)no longer has a video image. Plays music cd 's fine. When hooked up with either the rca cable or svideo there is no image on the screen even with no disk and no dvd picture play back. With a disk playing using svideo cable can see some broken up lines but no image. Has a dimly lit screen. Does this player have any history of poor solder joints or could a video chip be bad. I have knowledge of electronic repairs and parts but guidance of existing problem resolution would help as parts are very tiny.

Re: No image

Yes they are surface mounted componets and without a schematic and an ocilliscope I think it will be near impossible to find the trouble if the problem is an IC. If you have access to a scope try tracing the video signal from the RCA output jacks and see where you see it come up. Good Luck

Can I record from SVHS tapes or only from VHS tapes? Thank you, Victor

To record from SVHS you will need to hook it up by way of cable or SVideo Connecting and red and white RCA plugs. It should work just fine.

Only plays in black and white? what do we do?

Try a different cable, and a different TV if possible to help narrow down the problem.
it could be set for some other peculiar output mode; go into the configuration in the dvd player menu and verify that it is set for the type of TV you are using. normal composite video, (RCA), SVideo, Component Video, RGB, VGA, and Progressive Scan.

your TV has composit video in but your DVD/VCR only has Component video and Svideo outputs ..those are not compatable with your tv .. if you look more closely you might find an SVideo input on your tv .. its flat and not as easy to see as the normal jacks .. if your tv does have SVideo then all you need is an SVideo cable (plus the two sound cables) ... i could check on what you have if you give the TV model number .. othwise you have to have something to convert your SVideo to composit video .. there is a cable that does that .. you can check with radio shack .. if they do have such a cable then one end would plug into the svideo of the dvd/vcr . the other end would plug into the yellow jack on your tv .. hook up sound and it should work ok ..
here is such a cable on the internet ..

or google "svideo to composite" to see lots of options

Try to set your video output settings on your dvd player . I assume you used to connect to your old tv by using svideo and now you are using another connection like component, scart or hdmi.If the video output setttings on your dvd are still on svideo you will have to set it to rgb or component or else you will get black and white images..

No color when switching to component cable

To Change DVD Player Video Output to Progressive Scan: With your DVD Player turned on, and your TV turned on, press and hold the PREV/VIDEO button for at least 3 seconds (this puts you into Video Output mode). Press the PREV/VIDEO button to access different video output options. Each time you press
PREV/VIDEO, the type of video being displayed appears next to the Display menu. Look for PSCAN on your DVD player display panel. At this time, your progressive scan on TV should be working.

Hi If I'm understanding what you have written, the new DVD should hook up exactly the same way your old one did. You connect the red and white cable from the "Audio out" connectors on your new DVD to the "Audio In" connectors on the RF modulator, then connect the Svideo out on the DVD to the Svideo connector on the RF modulator. Then put your TV on channel 3 or 4 depending on what the switch on the modulator is set to, and all should work fine. I would advise you hook your old one back up, then if it works, simply unplug the cables from you old DVD and plug them into the proper jacks on the new one. This eliminates bad cables. If you then get sound, but no picture, the DVD may be set to progressive scan (check manual for procedure take it out of that mode),If you get nothing, then I suspect there is a problem with the new DVD player. The TV/VIDEO switch they mention, would be a switch on the TV or TV remote if you had a newer TV with RCA inputs.....You don't, so disregard that, it does not apply to your TV. You would not need the RF modulator if your TV had that switch. Good Luck!...These things can be a pain, I hope this helps!
